I'm going to start this topic off with a question.
How many times have you walked/flied into a forest or jungle only to watch heaps and heaps of leaf blocks decaying?
Well, i've got to be honest, it's kinda annoying to me. If i want to build a treehouse on top of a Giant jungle tree, it just looks a little bit messy, you may not be in the same boat, but i do like things looking the way they were when they were generated.
I'm suggesting, maybe to change leaf block decay so that this doesn't happen. Like make it so that if a leaf block is connected to another leaf block (and however many leaf blocks you think, maybe 5 or 6) will not decay as long as that ending block is connected to a wood block.
For those that don't quite get it, if a tree was like this, the leaf blocks would not decay:
but the end blocks would: ( is an air block)
instead of the old rule where if a wood block is within certain distance, it would not decay (this is just an example):
I'm just a neat kind of guy, could just be me, but leave your feedback if you support this idea
The only problem I have with this idea is that if I'm trying to clear out trees for something, it would be annoying if the leaf blocks didn't decay after cutting down the wood. It would be a lot more work to go in and manually remove every leaf block.

I kind of disagree because I remember playing back in the Classic days, where I would always have to chop down the whole tree, including the leaves by fist because they looked ugly if they didnt decay and I would usually make big projects like mansions or fountains. Also, if the leaves didn't decay with the huge oak trees that naturally grow within forests, then they would look REALLY random and stupid, just chillin there with the leaves magically floating in the air.
It makes sense that if a leaf doesn't have a trunk, then it will eventually decay, so it doesn't really make sense to change it. What is the point of the OP? Is it just that when the world/chunk is generated it generates leaves too far away from wood so they automatically start decaying without you doing anything? If that is the case, then just change it so that leaves may not spawn more than 4 spaces from a piece of wood. To me it seems reasonable that leaves would keep growing beyond the limit and fall off, or perhaps continually spawn, so if I have a tree trunk and build a "branch" with wood blocks, then the leaves will grow out to cover that branch... Just a thought though.

Enter that and you'll score one hundred thousand rupees for us both, along with a spiffy card!
Either way is good, but that might be a bit buggy to work with honestly, like for one thing it would be different to another thing.
but good thinking

Agreed
