There is one thing that has been annoying me since Sheep could regrow their wool. They are so overpowered. Once you have one sheep and dye him the color you want, you have an infinite amount of blocks for that color. There is no point in crafting the same type of dye more then once now. Just dye and sheep green, give him grass and you have an infinite supply of that color. Sheep dies? Just get another one and breed them. You'll have an infinite supply of sheep of that same color.
So here's my suggestion to balance them out. Once you shear them around 10 times, they don't regrow that color wool. They just go back to the color you found them. And you have to dye them again. (Off topic, but it does not make sense how dyeing a sheep makes them grow that type of wool forever. Does the dye go into their DNA?)
I really found it weird that when I dyed a sheep and sheared it's wool, the wool regrew dyed when it ate... I was expecting it to regrow white. I was also surprised to see that when breeding dyed sheeps, they produced dyed offsprings.

Exactly. You have infinite colored blocks now rather easily.
I came to the conclusion long since that "dying sheep" was actually a form of genetic manipulation. Since you pull it off with only some naturally occurring ingredients, it is just more evidence that Steve is actually a mage of some sort. [/pettheory]
At any rate, I am not in favor of nerfing sheep. As it stands, even with a handful of sheep of the same color, it takes quite a while to gather enough wool for, say, a farmhouse roof. The new features make it feasible to use wool on a large scale outside of creative, and I'm grateful for that.
Also, it is by far more labor intensive and requires more rare materials to set up a full sheep raising operation than it does to set up other infinite production systems (for example sustainable tree farms, which are very easy, a cobble generator, which is somewhat harder but still pretty easy, or a mob trap).

I'm supporting this cool indie comic. Take a look:
This sounds reasonable enough. Dyed wool lasts for so many shearings, then the dye wears off like it should. But, it is just wool: A flammable, weak material. So a nerf that strong may be more of a hindrance.
Instead, maybe baby sheep shouldn't be born dyed, but one of the default colors instead. I find it strange that dyed wool becomes genetic.

Well you do have a point I must admit. But I find it overpowered that with two pieces of dye and some wheat you can have infinite sheep. Then if you shear a lot at once you can get several stacks or colored wool.
I recently finished my first full scale sheep farm. It takes a lot of time, resources and dedication to build one that comfortably holds even 5 of each color sheep. Considering what it took to build that versus what it takes to make a tree farm for infinite wood and apples (oh noes, just cut down a tree, get the saplings and your all set!) I have no issues with sheep as they are. Now if only they stop warping through my fences...
Hmm... I understand what you are trying to say but I can't really agree that they're overpowered only because wool is mainly used as a decorative block. There is (currently) no practical uses for it. I have a decent size sheep farm but shearing the sheep is a tedious process. Heck, I sometimes only get one wool block.
