I'm not sure if anyone suggested this already, but for those building fortresses I think there should be 2x4 fortress doors that you can put side-by-side made of either wood or iron.
Those would sure make things easier when making a large building. I'm no great shakes with redstone, so if I want a door larger than the two standard ones side-by-side, I get flustered.
That is a good idea. Some kind of large door or gate that you don't need to create yourself. Biggest working door I've been able to make was only 2x3 using sticky pistons.
I think it should only be made of iron, having a gigantic door that can be punched down in 5 seconds is pointless. This could be interesting in PVP and adventure maps.

No, there has never, ever been a sandbox game with a story or ending... except Grand Theft Auto... and Saints Row... and Red Dead Redemption... and Crack Down... and Assassins Creed...
The wooden doors would be for people who don't want to use buttons, levers etc. Maybe the wooden ones could be stronger considering their size or include bars that can be dropped down.
Other ideas I had are gates of different styles and sizes that move up and down. I would also like to have draw bridges.
I still don't understand the implications of these. What would be the difference between this and, say, placing a double-iron door and two pressure plates in front of them, (which also gives the convenience to open one door when you want and both doors when you want)?
Secondly, I agree with Yoshi, how would collision work? Do they open one direction? Open upwards? Downwards? Open like double doors? I don't understand.
Not that it's bad, but I've seen it before and I still don't understand why it's better than a double door, given that it's the same size, and if it is/isn't the same size, how does it open, and how does it work with collision?

You don't even need all of your brain cells to place two pressure plates in front of them,
Except that the suggestion is as large as two side-by-side ones:
