This topic is a revival of one of my older getsatisfaction.com topics, back when getsatisfaction.com was actually linked up with mojang. I've taken the ideas presented in that single topic and smashed them together to fully flesh out this idea some of us participated in.
Now then, I don't know about all you guys, but I find the unpredictability of storms rather unsettling. I would love to see if there was a way to be able to tell when there was gonna be a storm of any kind. Perhaps, once clouds get turned into actual blocks, if the minimum cloud spawn size increases and the clouds themselves become slightly darker but not as dark as they are during the storm half a minecraft day before and after the storm actually hits. This way, the clouds are reasonably sized when the storm hits and it isn't a major jump from sunny day to dark and raining without any warning.
Here's a screen cap of the clouds during a rainstorm:
If you can see it, there's only two clouds there.
The way I see it, the sky would be rather FILLED with clouds. Not completely, but much MUCH more so than this.
I've also noticed that clouds are rather wispy and can easily be seen through, esp. at night where you can see the stars through the clouds. This is also a rather sad sight, so some heavier opacity would be greatly welcomed.
All in all, I think this would improve the games "feel" so much incredibly more, but I want to know what you all think~!
I like the idea, but in my opinion (and im sure a lot of other people's) opinion on rain is to just get rid of it. its really annoying and makes my fps drop like crazy, even with the good computer i have. If any improvement to rain/weather should be made i agree this is one of them, but i say just get rid of it all together

Well, i for one really love the weather, so thanks for your input~!
I like the touch of realism, but how about a weather rock!
Formula as portrayed.
The weather rock can tell you inclimate weather as it comes by..
You know, this actually doesn't sound like a bad idea at all~!
A slight change in recipe perhaps, but this would fit alongside the foreseeable weather idea WONDERFULLY!!!!

Also, it would be pretty cool to hear little thunder roars
without lightning as a sign of a big storm.
