so there is some pretty cool stuff you can do with half blocks and stairs. recently upside down support was added to them. and obviously rotational support was added too, so why not add the 4th block? it is technically the 1/8th block but the name is inspired by being 1/4th of a half block.
when this 1/4th block is placed it would be placed into the corner of the block that you point at, and any combination of 4th blocks would be supported. maybe even a center placement could be supported *2 pixels of clearance on each/every side*
block support that would make these blocks even more useful:
Be able to add onto stairs and half blocks
Half blocks able to placed flat on walls
Multi-style support thing that allows them to be mixed and matched with stairs/ half blocks of other types: wood --> stone slab, brick --> cobblestone
Entities such as signs/paintings/ladders supported being placed on half blocks like normal walls
because they would be mixed and matched they would need to be treated as fire proof.
to prevent lighting errors they would need to be opaque/clear.
rotational support is present with stairs, so the "1/4th" blocks would need manual rotation support too to prevent texture direction conflicts
not to be entities, so that they don't dies when pushed by a piston.
add style support for stone brick, it is already present for wood.
i know what you are thinking: why?
well an obvious answer is furniture:
table legs can be made of hearty oak, and be like normal legs instead of flimsy twigs *fences*
you could make a couch with a turn and not have an odd 1/8th of a block sticking out
if the centered option is supported you could use it to make a realistic looking gym with weights
if block to block support with different types was added, you could make a neato brick fireplace that blends seamlessly with your wood, brick, etc building.
a bathtub with sides 1/2 meter thick would look alot better then one with 1 meter thick sides
Another feature that they could be used for is
minature circles/spheres for abstract art
they could be used to make a hall look and feel 2/3 wide while taking 3/4 blocks, this could be used to keep building centered, but not have to change exterior walls or add fake interior walls.
by making walls out of them on adjacent rooms you can have hidden passageways that only take up 2 blocks, instead of 3.
statues could in theory take up 1/2 as much space if made of the right materials
a stone pedestal could be made with the centering to showcase things like diamond, mob spawner, etc
a less obtrusive/thinner waist high wall
a more realistic crumbling stonework for ruins.
More blocks that could be used as half blocks, stairs, and 1/4th blocks to increase the usefulness of these blocks and features even more:
Sorry to burst your bubble block, but Jeb was asked in an interview if he would add this, and he said no. Also, the person who asked him said it almost the same way that you did, did you take your idea from that interview?

I'm going to mash signature stuff together: I tested 100% positive for MC addiction, I'm a black knight, support crappy trees, my color is red, and microsoft destroys to a cactus.
no, I was inspired by complete rotational/upside down support for stairs, visually at least. and i thought that would be cool for half blocks too, being able to place them on walls. so maybe a new half block instead? crafting recipie is identical jsut rotated 90 or 270. that could be cool.

- mossy cobble
- glass
- ore blocks: * 9 ore = 1 block | 1 block = 8 "4th" blocks *
- stone
- glowstone
The ones above should only be 1/4th blocks, although slabs/stairs can be made by putting them together. You can find the request and mod here:
