We've got books that we can write in now. We've also got bookshelves that, from the looks of the suggestion forums, most people want to act as chests that store books. Personally, I think they should just store 4 books: 1 book isn't enough given the new leather requirement for every book, but 9 is too much given how many bookshelves makes a library.
Anyways, that's not the big suggestion. What I propose is pre-generated books; books that are already written in at world generation. They would be found in the bookshelves located in stronghold libraries and NPC villager houses. One could also find them in dungeon chests.
Not all bookshelves would contain pre-generated books. Only about 5% or so would. Bookshelves containing said books would have a small sparkly particle effect, which would only happen with shelves that originally spawned, so as to not annoy people who built giant libraries who don't want them to all be sparkly when they fill them with their books.
There would have to be a great number of books, essentially around the amount found in Skyrim. Indeed, this entire idea is similar to that of Skyrim's book/lore system. Books would have written in them a great deal of content similar to that of Skyrim, such as journals, fictional stories, nonfiction, etc.
Of course, it would be too time-consuming for Mojang to write all the books themselves. Which is why I propose the idea of user-written books. Mojang would set up a kind of forum for users to post their books. Other users could vote on their favorites. After about 100 books are written, Mojang would read them, filtering out those that aren't that good after all, or don't fit in Minecraft.
Anyways, this would add a really cool kind of lore to Minecraft. We've already got the endgame credit lore, which could tie in to the book lore. I think that this kind of system would also be a good way for the community to finally contribute to Minecraft as a whole.

While I very much would like some lore books, Mojang would have to be careful that they didn't venture too close to Story territory. It seems most people like the open-ended and ambiguous nature of Minecraft.
Also, there should be a book titled Cool Story and it should be authored by someone named simply "Bro."
It would be a long and rambling thing with absolutely no point.
Well, the lore would have to be a little bit open ended, so as to imply individual interpretation of the stories. We don't just say "Creepers are Aliens", we instead have a journal of an explorer who saw a strange flying machine depositing creepers across the landscape, where the explorer thinks that it's why creepers simply come out of nowhere at night.

I think this is a great idea. I was hoping to find something similar to this. I hope Mojang finds it. I also think a good addon would be that depending on how full a bookshelf is, it shows on the block itself. Of course, you could still make a full and useless decorative bookshelf too.
