I think it would be VERY cool if you could go into strongholds and find Book and Quills
inside the chests with writing inside them.
For instance
"Moon Phase 6, 186 M.C.D. I've left some of the last of these strange pearls in my lockbox. The new land we've been exploring has brought... detramental effects on my health. In this world, I cannot survive, but strangely, going back to that land seems to... cure me in a way. I only hope that if I die before the portal is rebuilt, that you remember my work and keep it's legacy alive.Let the tall ones out of their cages.... If we do, they may tell us the secrets of the portal. With my last few hours, I hope to tell you everything I know about this place, if you happen to find this. Great idea! Maybe you can find a book that tells you hints or directions to like a stronghold or a nether fortress, like:
Go to the ring of trees in a forest north of here and build a Hell's Gate in the center and enter and find the fortress of bloodstained bricks built by the lost inhabits of Hell.
or
Go towards the rising sun and you will find something...

"Colder than the snow that blankets the earth" "Colder than the ice that cover the stones and freezes the rivers" "Colder than the north wind blowing through a winter-bound forest" "Colder than all these is the smile of a Shade of the Dark"
I made a suggestion about this, but it died. It was essentially the same so I support this.

No, there has never, ever been a sandbox game with a story or ending... except Grand Theft Auto... and Saints Row... and Red Dead Redemption... and Crack Down... and Assassins Creed...
This would be cool. Although it would be hard to make directions to somewhere since the world is randomly generated.
Unless if certain "pre-defined" world generation things were made, such as "If a stronghold is generated in X location, have an NPC village in Y location with a book containing directions on how to get to said stronghold".
I think this sounds like a great idea. At least, the original suggestion, I'm not sure about directions, given the (mostly) random generation of minecraft worlds.
I suppose they could make it so that it would point the direction towards some sort of treasure that is spawned with, and paired with the book, somehow, but even that could be tricky.
What about just random cool notes and things? I don't need directions to places, I would just like some cryptic lore and other odd scriblings to put in my library. Like, an obituary, a log of a meeting, etc.

Exactly.
Maybe even some random hints like "Cactuses keep the nasties away."

Well, I think they would give coordinates rather than direction.

You can edit book and quills.
Great idea though. I want this in.

Did you know that 83.1% of statistics are made up on the spot?

Mind linking me to it?
