It seems to be really difficult. Discounting death, how is an average battle going to be played out?
Scenario:
Player A: Diamond sword, Full Armor, experienced, bad at clicking stuff
Player B: Full of Arrows, inexperienced, can click like a madman
Player A sees player B. Player B spams arrows. Player A is unable to get close, bails. Player B follows him hoping for an easy kill. He can't get to him and is constantly 2 feet short. Player A hides in his house, taunts evily. Player B spams dynamite kills Player A. As he respawns, he loses (this is hypothetical, I don't know what will happen in death) all his items. Player B now wins due to spam. Hoo-rah!
It seems to me someone can spam arrows and win. Try playing tag with someone in Minecraft, they/you can never catch them. Making people move slower(hopefully) with armor also gives them protection against arrows which gives them the drawback of vulnerability to swords. As for swords, how will combat play out? Two people clicking until one person dies? I don't want Minecraft to end up like Runescape PvP servers. People crowding in the spawn and getting picked off by people who play constantly.
Edit: I hypothesize that Survival MP is either going to fail or **** of the general population. So when your being constantly getting killed by spammy McArrow runs away, I want you to know, I ****ING CALLED IT.

Arrow = expensive , ranged can spam , can run from sword , then in PvP u dont look at amounts unless u not real PvP'er so sometimes u dont notice you run out of them
Sword = can avoid arrows easy , in here take ALOT of swords for win
Easy, if you come into contact with an archer, just make a makeshift wall every couple of feet and dodge around them. When they finally run out of arrows, charge in for the kill. Better yet, make a makeshift defence then sneak around them for a ninja kill.
I think in mp you won't be able to press tab like a crazy man, most likely ill it have a 2 sec. cooldown before another arrow, it will be used wen you see a enemie from far away and be used until he can get close to you, them you will have to switch to a sword.
I used to do archery and the fastest an experienced archer can fire (with a longbow, the quickest use bow there is) is about 10 shots a minute. When firing at that rate, it's almost impossible to hit a human sized target at more than ten meters, so balancing bows should be an easy fix. Also, you can't fire a bow "from the hip" like you can with a gun.
So here's how bows SHOULD work :
- Archer draws his bow, it takes about 6 seconds to take an arrow, place it on the bow and notch it onto the string and pull back.
- At this point accuracy is extremely low, releasing the mouse to fire now would send the arrow anywhere in a 30° cone.
- Accuracy starts to get better all the way to a 0,2° cone over the course of about 20 seconds. At the same time, mouse wobbling starts, small at first.
- After about a minute of holding the bow ready to fire, the wobbling moves the aim all about.
(the wobbling is to reflect the fact that a 40+ pound bow is quite a hard thing to hold tight, and you begin to tremble, although an experienced archer can predict his wobbling and time the release so he launches the arrow when he's aiming correctly)
This would make taking out an enemy at a distance (like an ambush) would be possible, since in that case you can take your time, but making it an actual battle weapon quite pointless, like a real bow. (Or if there are a large number of archers, then they could spam arrows together, again, like real bowmen.)
I love this. not sure about the wobbling target, but overall, its great.

You both have clean words on about. I would say; people with swords should be able to block the arrows. Shields?
But if people use shields, whats the point of using arrows if their useless against people with swords? We need a third style of fighting.

Yeah, a cooldown would be nice for online, but also a shield to switch to. It takes any damage (And gets damaged) from any sword blows or arrows that comes at you, but you still get knocked back due to the force of the blow.
