This here is a small collection of new ores I think would fit well intio Minecraft.
Ruby Ore
Ruby ore is found at layer 30 and below. It can only be mined with a iron or higher pick. It looks like redstone except it is duller and has the lapis lazuli ore shape. When mined it gives you 1-3 ruby crystals. Ruby can be crafted into a ruby block, which is kind of like a red lapis lazuli block. It can also be crafted with redstone to make maroon redstone. Ruby can also dye sheep maroon.
Emerald Ore
Emerald is found on layers 20 and below. It can be mined with an iron or higher pick. It has a bright green color. When mined it gives you one emerald crystal. Emerald crystal can be made into an emerald block, which looks like a bright green diamond block. It can be crafted with redstone to make green redstone. It can dye sheep neon green.
Amethyst Ore
Amethyst is found layers 30 and below. It has to be mined with iron or higher pick. It is a purple ore. When mined it gives you 1-2 amethyst crystals. It can be made into a purple diamond patteren amethyst block. Can be crafted with redstone to make purple redstone. Can dye sheep a purpleish white.
Colored Redstone
Colored redstone is made from lapis lazuli, ruby, emerald, amethyst, rose red, dandylion yellow, or brown mushrooms. It is just redstone, but different colors, blue, maroon, green, purple, red, yellow, and brown respectively. Different colored redstone won't connect, adding more varieties of contraptions. They can attach via redstone torch or redstone repeater.
I think they should add copper ore that can make copper blocks. It could make copper tools which are better than stone tools but not as good as iron tools. You can also make copper blocks.
okay, i like the ideas, but whats the POINT of the new ores? youve laid out all of the logistics, but not the uses. would they be used for weapons? armor? what would their strength be? etc.....

Ya theres not much point to these new ores. If they are going to add new ores it should be something you can make tools with, otherwise it is pretty pointless.
I totally agree with you guys. Problem is I need ideas. Anyone know what tools I could turn the ores to? I guess when it comes out, you could trade the stuff with villagers.

Rubies, amethyst, and emeralds, ok--if their purpose is merely decorative and they're very rare to get, that could be a nice little rare thing to look for, and then maybe they could be included in rare brewing recipes or something.
Differently colored redstone...no. Not only does it not make sense since it would no longer be "REDstone", but really, in my opinion, redstone needs to be done away with altogether. They're not at all based on reality, like all the other ores. We should be using copper for wires.

redstone needs to be done away with altogether?!?!?! whaaaaaat? dude, without redstone, we would not have over half of the stuff that we do in the game! adventure maps would not exist, there would only be parkour maps! i dont think you thought that through too well...... can you explain what you meant?
