So, I haven't been playing with snapshots (been enjoying a particular mod quite a lot) but looking at this particular snapshots changes (through CaptainSparklez) I thought of a few changes that should and could be made to this to make it slightly better:
1) Allow us to title books without closing them. Doing so could allow players to keep inentory far easier than signs labeling whats in every chest. In SMP OPs could use it to leave changable notes to each other or to keep track of the players and their habits or actions/locations. IMPLEMENTATION: Add another button seperate from the current two that simply says "Title". Doing so would make the book and quill icon appear enchanted and the hovering over would display the title you give the book and you could still open, edit, and even re-title it. This wouldn't be TOO terribly hard to add.
2) I've already seen this one on here but: The ability to change the name that you sign a book with. I know that in some SMP servers they have mods that allow you to change the name of a player from their log in to something else, which could cause confusion if a person doesn't know the log-in of a person they are reading.
3) Allow signed books to be re-edited through crafting the same way you would a normal book. It would remove the title (could be re-input through the implementation of part 1) and would give you the ability to make changes if you discovered you made an error and didn't want to rewrite everything.
Just a few suggestions for Mojang. The other aspects seem awesome, though I think ALL wooden things should have unique colors based off of what wood is used, that way entire houses can have a more unique feel to them.
If I could make any addition to that list, it would be the ability to copy books through crafting. Basically, a signed book with a regular book in the crafting grid would yield a copy of the signed book. The regular book would be crafted away, while the original signed book would remain (much like the buckets in the cake recipe).
2) could be twisted for griefing purposes (especially if there are no profanity filters in the first releases); it sounds like something the mod should be handling.
