I recently saw the video for the new snapshot about writable books. this has huge applications for questmaps, and i had an idea for improving on that
since we Have books we need somewhere to store them, why not make a new kind of bookshelf for just that purpose and the crafting recipie would be relatively simple too
--------------------------
(wood)(wood)(wood)
(Book)(chest)(book)
(wood)(wood)(wood)
--------------------------
this shelf would look different (maybe a candle placed on the bottom shelf and it could emit light) this would be good for quests when there is a library and the player has to find the book to continue with the quest.
but the bookshelf doesnt have to store only books items could also be placed (like someone just left something behind)
i think this would be a fantastic addition to the blocks that are already in place in minecraft to make the game better and more interesting
Why not just give the player the ability to right-click on bookshelves to open up a UI showing slots where there may be books? It would be simple since there wouldn't be the need for a new block.

Or be able to open multiple books at a time
I agree with RyanML
