I think minecraft should have more things to do with civilizations. Here are some of the things I have thought of so far. New ideas are welcome. Please check back every now and then. I will edit this post when I get ideas, or when someone has a better idea.
Villagers:
Different types of villagers - Architects for building, merchants for trade, etc...
Trade - exchange of items and currency
Dialog - being able to talk. Not audible, It would be like chatting in multiplayer.
Action - being able to do things
Fight - when attacked. Only some of them. Like gladiators or knights.
Build - expand their own villages. Auto-detect your projects, and not build on top of them. Size limit, you don't want them to cover your whole world.
New types of villagers to inhabit the different types of villages (see below)
Villages:
More building types1
More village types
Empire - Stone-age-ish. Castle in the center. Wall surrounding the city.
Modern - A more advanced feel. Factories, Highways, Different building materials. Much higher population.
Sky city - A city that is in the air. Cloaked on the bottom side. Because it doesn't cast a shadow, it's hard to find, and harder to get up to. Also has a sky portal2
Alien - Spaceships, Odd looking buildings, Obsidian and iron blocks, Colored lights, Fast moving inhabitants.
Cave world - Carved into a mountain. Hieroglyphics. Has a system of rooms and walkways. Not like caves3
Tree world - Jungle biome only. Platforms and walkways. Made of wooden planks for floors and fence posts to keep them from falling off. No roofs or walls.
1 - I can design them, and provide buildcraft blueprints. Idk where to upload them though. So far, I have designed a mansion, a restaurant, and… Well that's it. I need more ideas.
2 - An aether-like terrain. Clouds at the bottom of the world. Always day, never rains. Monsters can spawn, but very rarely. Sense it's a floating world, there should be wings to put on like a chest plate. They let you fly, like the people that live there.
3 - Caves go in random directions, these will go in 1 direction at a time without curving, or changing diameter. Multi-leveled. Not going up and down at random, must have space in between levels. Like a maze, but easily navigable. Stairs to go up and down.
Currency doesn't really fit minecraft, maybe just gold nuggets would be better?
Audible speech would annoy the CRAP out of me.
Villagers don't fight, they're passive.
Also, how in the world would they be able to detect your projects? That would be so much ****ing time to implement and it wouldn't do much either.
Like the Empire, hate everything else.
Modern: Highways and factories in minecraft? There was no industrial revolution in the Iron Age.
Sky City: NO.
Alien: NO. JUST NO.
Cave world: your descriptions are very vague and I have trouble even imagining what you're getting at here.
Tree world: When villagers breed, the baby villager will spawn outside your little safety rails here and because of the new AI they will just stay there and multiply there, resulting in a nightmarish chain reaction of villagers on third of a block space pushing each other off and making love to make up for the dead villagers.
Also, you don't even need rails. Because of the new AI they won't walk off. (they will push each other off, but with the fences they'll get stuck in the middle)

You kinda had me until you mentioned the different village types. They would all ruin the game. Sorry

I made my own shader pack, by the way.
Items is fine, but currency doesn't fit Minecraft.
They already do this, silently. Clearly audible speech doesn't fit Minecraft, and would just eventually be annoying.
Villagers don't fight; that's what the Iron Golem is for.
Seems like a waste of time to implement, cross-armed Villagers wouldn't make the best builders anyway.
Your additional building types don't fit the Villagers at all.
