Quicksand, it's wet, fine-grained sand that appears naturally in pits, but is slightly uncommon. You see, it would occur like so:
It would slow you down tremendously and suck you downward. Being submerged for too long would have the same effect as drowning, however, sinking is slow unless you move, in which it speeds up. Just like being in water, digging speed is very low. How to get out of it? Have another player dig you out or try to get to the edge of the 'quicksand pool'.
I wod love this! I agree with zuriki, it would be great for secret entrances. But this bears the age old question, how would it be done?
EDIT: Sorry, I thought Meren was spelled Z-u-r-i-k-i

M E R E N. That is how you spell Zuriki. :sleep.gif:
Anyways, using my example, it would be accomplished by tunneling into the sand pit from the right. I imagine you wouldn't actually be able to swim up through quicksand very well, so it would be entrance only. Also, I imagine quicksand as being difficult to see through so you would have to know the entrance was there or find it by blind luck.

EDIT:
Oh and BTW...Quicksand occures naturally near my house and it does NOT sink you.
You're too buoyant to sink further than shoulder height then it's HELL to dig out of.
I'd know...I decided to take a mud Err...Sand bath on day and couldn't get out untill someone found me an hour later! >:U

The idea is that it's a deathtrap, and hard to escape, but this might work.
Much like water blocks that don't move, with greater viscosity.
