Who here thinks minecraft needs to be less realistic? Currently there's only one fake ore in minecraft, redstone. Now i've decided on a new fake ore. An edible one, that will be quite useful and generally funny. So here it is: PORKONIUM!
So first of all porkonium will be found rarely near the surface and rarely near bedrock. It would be a bit rarer than iron but less rarer than gold. It would have the same ore patterns as lapis lazuli, but instead it has bright pink. You would need a stone pickaxe and higher for this ore. When mined it will drop a porkonium ore block and rarely a raw porkchop.
Here's the uses. You can eat ore blocks, but they only restore 1 and a half bits on the hunger bar. When porknium ore is smelted, you would get a porkonium ingot. These would look like cooked porkchops but in the shape of an ingot. You can eat these to restore 3 points on your hunger bar. With these you can also craft pork tools. These would be the same colour as cooked porkchops. You can eat pork tools to restore 5 points on your hunger bar. Pork tools would have the same capabilities as golden tools but would last for a shorter time. All mobs apart from animals will be lured to pork tools when you're carrying them. You can also craft pork armour, these will be a bit less stronger than chainmail armour. Pork armour would be dark pink. It would last as long as gold armour. Pork armour will also attract all mobs apart from animals. This armour will also increase your agility slightly, so you can sprint faster. If a pork ingot is placed on the crafting grid you will be able to get 2 raw porkchops.
So tell me what you think about porkonium ore and suggest some new things.

To all of you people who think Notch is still working on the game, he stopped working on Minecraft in late 2011. Get your facts straight and stop spamming his twitter about Minecraft updates.
With that said, it ALMOST resembles the idea of "flesh blocks" I had made out of zombie meat, but my idea was for the spooky aesthetic and it has a known source (killing zombies). I'd love to see your justification on why meat is growing in the earth, or why this doesn't step on the toes of pigs.

How can you say that when minecraft is a game with floating blocks of dirt, green exploding creatures and red mysterious ore that powers pistons made out of wood and stone. Everything is cuboid for crying out loud. It isn't real life. Can't you understand the concept of a fantasy game? IT'S NOT REAL LIFE.

Of course I can understand it. But rather than saying "anything goes" I think it's perfectly reasonable to say "let's compare it to what we have so far".
What we have so far is a fantastic take on reality. Some things are ignored, like gravity, and details are glossed over like how things break off in perfect cubes, but they have a realist base, even if they proceed to warp the real base into something new, like hard-as-adamantine obsidian. Even the most fantasical ore so far, redstone, is a fairly real world comparison to electrical conducting materials, probably copper.
With that in mind, what is cave-pork comparable to? Just a simple question.
I think the idea would go over better if you could do that. If I suggested for example, "let's put in Eijitanium. It is like brass, but it is always giving off heat." and then people have a base for it (this is like real brass, with a brassy color, and probably be about as hard as brass) and adds something unusual (why is it violating thermodynamics with its infinite heat? Oh well, fantasy.)

Well cave-pork doesn't seem to be comparable to anything other than pigs. I was just thinking that since minecraft is pretty much about mining, i thought a new underground resource would be minecraft-related. I was also just thinking that there should probably be an underground food resource other than mushrooms.

Not a bad idea to have more underground food after all. If I may distort your original idea and run with this for a moment.... hmmm, what could be a plant or animal that could be eaten....
....mmm, bats. Well I have no idea how tasty bats are.
Moles?
There are a few technically edible rocks, but it's mostly salt (which, if you've never seen it, is an awesome idea... not my own).
Silver could be used for some kind of medication....
Moss?
That's the only problem with deep cave stuff. No sunlight means no plants. The best I can think of is potatoes.
Oh, but having one of the cave-based mobs produce food, besides zombies, would be a good idea. Alternatively a way to purify zombie meat. But I'm getting off course.
.....oh yeah. Well, we're thinking real world stuff. We do have two other dimensions we can work on, and the Nether certainly needs more material. The advantage of thinking Nether is that while you have the same issue as the overworld (you want to make a material you can justify and relate to) you are trying to relate it to peoples conceptions of hell rather than earth. Think about it, "a horrible wall of meat" sounds like something you might find in hell. What if pork blocks were meaty blocks found in hell? I actually think the idea is salvagable when placed in terms of the nether. And heavens knows the nether needs food. It could be the nether-version of mushroom plains.
Well.. That is kind of silly. Although I think minecraft needs an edible ore. I voted that there soud be some of this in the game beacause I like the idea but pork tools are over the top.

Actually, I thought of my own ore, Foodium. It would break off as a gem that is green and can be crafted in to blocks or eaten to restore 2 1/2 hunger. It should be as common as iron, or possibly coal. Blocks of it could be crafted in to a hunger pack, by crafting it with a water bucket to restore hunger for 30 seconds when eaten. Eating it would give you your bucket back. Just came up with that on the spot.

Why not Beefimite and Chickinmond? Every thing in this game atleast has something comparable to it in real life, as the second poster said. Also, this poll is extemely biased, and this is not a serious post.

I hate the new signatures. I can't even add a creeper to show my anger.
I would support a flesh block, and a bone block, but not a pork block/ore/ingot/etc.
There is a difference between fantasy and humor.
I play a game of high adventure. Pork ore fits into the "humor/cartoon" area, not in the high adventure type game. Hence, it would work better as a mod. Unless an overwhelming amount of people prefer cartoon/humor. In which case I am the minority, and I should be the one modding it out of the game.
As the poll stand right now, it should be modded IN, not modded OUT.
