While I spent the days hunting wild pigs and sheep, and the nights I spent defending my camp from vicious invaders, a thought occurred to me. Instead of spending all my time trying to be where I needed to be, why not use my clever human intellect and let the monsters kill themselves on some ingenious traps of mine?
Now now, any old fool can dig a ditch to keep the monsters at bay. Some intrepid newcomers may even flood a ditch with lava to give those monsters quite the heat stroke. But who wants to live in drippy, dank, disgusting underground caves? Not me.
Here, I'll show you a few schematics I have come up with:
I call this one the 'poker'. You attach a knife (or a sword if you're feeling salty) to a flexible stick, stretch it back, and cover it with some foliage to keep it weighed down. When somethin devilish wanders into it and disturbs the device's delicate balance, the stick flexes into action and drives the knife into the unlucky sap!
Here's my favorite, I call him "chomper". He's real hungry, so hungry that he'll bite down on anything that steps on his sensitive iron tongue. And when he bites, he don't let go until whatever he was munching on is long gone to the monster afterlife.
Ah, and then my old nemesis makes an appearance. This infernal contraption took three of my toes a few years ago! I call it the "Patient Porcupine", on account of how it sits in one spot and sticks sharp things through any poor animal that falls on it. One or two of these at the bottom of a deep hole and you got yourself a ham dinner waiting to happen. Make the sharp poles out of stone or iron or even wood if you want, just don't expect a flimsy wood trap to be reusable.
[none] [none] [none]
[stick] [stick] [stick]
All in all, I think that just about rounds it up. If you folks have any creative little kill-designs floatin around in your noggins, plop em down in this thread and let everyone know.
Now, y'see here, the problem with the monsters is that some of 'em jump atcha!
That can easily be solved with one of my brand-new "Spider Denier," patent pending.
Basically all it does is pop up whenever one of them little devils tries jumpin' over it through the use of strings and the like.
Now, you set it up like this.
Sand = Air. Wood = Stick [iron] [iron]
That there's your main part of the contraption. Now, yer gonna need something like a tripwire, right?
TNT = String
Ye jes' put that about one space above yer Spider Denier, and when the critters try to jump atcha, the Denier pops up and knocks 'em back!

I am NOT going to see friend requests, so stop sending them.
Bear traps would be really cool. I can't remember what there called, but they were trenches with spikes on one side to prevent someone from climbing up. They would be hard to make, but would function as good as any wall, minus the anti-arrow defence.

I'd love to see crumbling floors as either a new block type or some kind of overlay that would be applied to existing block types. Walk over it so many times and it breaks, giving nothing of that block type. I'm not sure how it would spawn in the level-generated cave systems, since it kind of needs a lower cavern to fall into.
You all can't admit you wouldn't want to use such a block to create a larger variety of puzzles!

Retired StaffUpright spikes would be a great addition for Dungeon mode. Something other than Lava to keep things interesting.
Oooooh... Seconded.
(iron would be arrows)

Haha, I second this awesome idea.
Me too! Seems like such a simple idea to implement.
