Mind me, I'm not the best Minecrafter, so some of this might suck.
As I know of, you can't get obsidian in Indev/Survival mode (Please Please PLEASE, correct me if I'm wrong) so, here is what I purpose.
To get Obsidian, Water and Lava must touch. This would replace the stone that gets made when it touches. It would be as valuable as diamond (maybe more) because it could be hard to mine, and because it could be difficult to join Lava and Water.
What do you think?
An interesting prospect. Definitely a challenge, but obsidian is, by (wikipedia's) definition, cooled lava glass, so technically, we should just have to let lava sit out... But where's the fun in that? This could also be implemented in several game modes, i.e 'Mine X amount of Obsidian!' etc.
But I like having pools of lava. Oh, I know, maybe the same way water evaporates, if a side face of a lava tile is exposed it then cools into obsidian. I think water + lava should just be stone, as per usual, because extreme sudden cooling tends to cause damage and imperfection, not to mention, the water adds impurities.
