Night is boring. On peaceful, you can't see **** unless you have a million torches spread out across your entire compound. On anything else, Skeletons can rape you from the darkness.
So, Instead of looking at the sky for the entire night, why not give us something to do?
In Single Player, this would be a bed in which to sleep, or perhaps some books to read/write in.
In Multiplayer, this would be game tables and such where people could sit down and play card games or chess or something. Books too, and maybe beds so you can be visibly AFK and regenerate a small bit of health.
And musical instruments and such, so we can all get drunk on minecraftian ale and sing about our past lives as lama bears from pluto.
Dude, Night on forest is scary.
If i would have slept in my last game id be dead so quickly.
I was making a pick at my crafting table, and my house exploded.
If i would have been sleeping i would have died.
BUT I LOVE YOUR IDEA!
(Just had to share that story)
My problem with mining at night is that I usually dig so deep underground that by the time I come back to the surface, I might as well spin a pinwheel to figure out how long I've been down there. Time ceases to have meaning when you've gone mad. The childish friendliness of this game just seems to also have this dark, seemingly Lovecraftian air to it.
And a bed isn't an AFK thing in the singleplayer standpoint, it would be like fast forwarding the night away, minus the chance of a creeper tucking you in.
This is why your mining operations are done from a central hub, a shaft in the ceiling allowing for sunlight to drape down and allow you to tell when the morning comes.
Amazing how nice caves look with a few light shafts.
YES! I would love to just sit down and play some poker while waiting for the dark night to pass. Once it's gone, we can get up and run around again. Also, if people were to sneak attack enemies, it would be so epic to just blast a hole in their floor and jump out and start fighting, as they would be completely off guard with their game. I could imagine though. Listen to this story:
A watchman is set up on the settlement walls to keep guard because it is his night to be watchman. The others are down either writing some books or playing poker, and it is a peaceful night. The watch man is looking up at the sky and trying to make out constellations out of boredom. Suddenly, he is killed and when he sees the villain, it is an enemy player who was trained to assassinate. On his computer he becomes angry with frustration that he can't tell his friends. The body is taken and thrown into the ocean where it sinks to the bottom. A team of players dig under the walls and cover their tracks. The second watchman is unaware of his peer's demise. He looks around and he hears an arrow close by. When he walks to investigate, he sees the arrow and is about to tell the others, before he is also killed and thrown into the ocean. The enemies dig under the planned location to invade, set a TNT, and step back. The TNT explodes and the bedrooms where the men are playing poker goes into chaos. They freak out and rush to their chests for weapons. They barricade the doors with iron, but the warriors are well prepared and take out a pickaxe and drill a hole in the wall next to the door. On man rushes to jump into the ocean, but an arrow takes him out. In a last ditch attempt, one warrior tells his team members to evacuate, and they trap the enemies inside for a short time. Once they reach the outside, they hit a suicide tnt, and the entire base, which is under tons of strategically placed tnt, is completely annihilated, with the enemies in it. The men only have themselves left, and they begin to go through the rubble, looking for valuables such as diamond or iron.
This would require the fallowing things:
Deaths are not announced unless someone finds the body and decides to announce it.
So, generally positive response? I don't care who the **** you are, no one can deny that playing poker in a noisy bar in survival MP while zombies claw at the BOARDED UP front door would be awesome.
Also, we need doors and the ability to barricade them.

This suggestion is added
You can pick up enemies and throw them
My house went on a Vacation to the Sky last night :C
Id love to make a base that can be destroyed completely in an explosion on command :biggrin.gif:
Also, we need doors and the ability to barricade them.
This brings to light another idea, I'll put it in another thread.
