While the OP takes it too far, the idea of wonders in themselves is good. I actually was thinking they shouldn't be associated with villages at all, but rather spawn like strongholds (and a stronghold would be a sort of wonder). That, and keep them simple... things can be big and impressive and still simple. The ruins of an old town, a pyramid, stonehenge, these are the things you expect to find if exploring the great unexplored land that has been untouched for centuries. Not so much the statues of liberty and whatnot. In general, think about things which you'd call "relics" or "ancient" and could be conceived as such. Wonder where this artificial, but still standing stone bridge came from, these mysterious arches, or the meaning of this platform. A religious ceremonial area? Maybe some kind of ancient starchart. Who knows.
I dont believe most of these would fit in a village. Why, you may ask? Because these are villages, small, agricultural hamlets, really. They, on average, have a population of about twenty, twenty robed abomnations that do nothing. I doubt that twenty of these...things, could or would build something so large, and of such lavish materials. Finding, say, the Washington monument (Made almost entirely of iron) would ruin your game (If you were playing legit). It would for me, anyway.
I dont disagree with everything, though. A few ideas I like poke through the clutter. Catacombs are a good idea, those would be extremely cool.
Just as people dont know the legend of atlantis came from the eruption of thera which destroyed a entire city located on top of the volcano under thera this city was managed by the minoans one of the most powerful empires of the time also all this stuff about not being a empire is completely untrue in most of the time just because they are not empires now does not mean that they werent a hundred years ago for example the british empire and what you were saying about minecraft stealing ideas from world life for example
Dirt Stone Obsidian Diamonds Armour Tools Weapons Cows Pigs
How do you think a game like minecraft where the entire goal is to mine and craft could survive without tools or ores sure you could make up new ores but that would only confuse people what the person really meant is buildings and other man made creations on such a big scale should not be copied because it shows a lack of originality and general stagnation of the game as a whole
This pretty much sums up what I was trying to say, but there are a few things I'm starting to agree with you (the OP) on.
If the villages spawn over water then a village-wide pier would be formed that might look similar to the grand canal (but different).
The catacombs might make an interesting underground structure, but the trapdoor gave me a good idea. What if when a structure spawns under a village (any structure) a trapdoor would also spawn to connect them (so they wouldn't be a village structure, but they could connect with villages).
I've seen plenty of suggestions for pyramids as desert structures and ziggurats as jungle structures, so they might be acceptable.
My opinions on Stonehenge is that it could make a good wilderness structure, but take away the Pandorica. Same goes for the Heads.
I'll end the argument about the worst suggestion once and for all with this: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1159420-minecraft-tv-series/
I'll also end the stone age argument. Whether or not stone age people did ever wear cloths, the villagers in Minecraft have iron tools. Argument over.

No, there has never, ever been a sandbox game with a story or ending... except Grand Theft Auto... and Saints Row... and Red Dead Redemption... and Crack Down... and Assassins Creed...

Yeah, well, the major point of my suggestion remains. Anyway, thanks!

Excuse me, but that was my comment you just read there, bub.
Stonehedge and Easter Island, MAYBE, but everything else, N.O.
I mean, seriously, some of them are made of GOLD/IRON BLOCKS. Do you have any idea how game-breaking that would be? You just have to find ONE of those and you're set for life.
Plus, the Statue of Liberty? Seriously? That has absolutely NO PLACE in a game played worldwide. Plus, I might add, Notch/Jeb/Bukkit/Jon/Anyone else who works at Mojang lives in Sweden. Yes, they're going to put in a landmark from the U.S.
These are just too modern and would dwarf the entire village. Also, I don't think those stupid villagers will be able to make an OPERA HOUSE out of IRON BLOCKS.

SERIOUSLY?! WHAT ON MINECRAFTIA ARE YOU TRYING TO TELL ME?!
Every wonder has to be somewhere in the world, dude!!! I mean, you critisise one thing from America, but not anything else from America, or anything from China, Australia, Britain or France. Seriously...

I think he was just saying you're being too specific *shrug* Or we could turn this into a nationalist argument somehow.
Being too specific? How can you not be specific when you're talking about flippin' huge towers of Stone...
And by nationalist you obviously mean racist XD

Please no, I don't want those things in minecraft. I want don't want real world buildings in minecraft; minecraft is not Earth.
It's funny how you go against my suggestion for mercenaries saying it will "ruin" minecraft with no conclusive reason, and then you come up with this crap.

Hardy har har, it's funny how you think that giving Villages more randomized flavor is crap, and yet you suggest that we make thugs-4-hire that make Minecraft seem like it's going in the direction that only Skyrim deserves to go.

The OP is going crazy in defending his idea. I honestly like the idea of 'Wonders', but they shouldn't be wonders from real life. While Minecraft has many things from Earth, they are things that a game about Mining and Crafting couldn't be without. Does the Nether or the End relate to Earth very much?
Also, many wonders you've listed are gamebreaking or extremely out of place for 20 robed squidwards to ever build. Did you notice, every 16 villagers (15+), an iron golem spawns? That requires 36 iron ingots and a pumpkin. That means it takes 16 people to make 4 iron blocks. How would it make sense for there to be The Washington Monument, which would go over the height limit, be 10x10x9001 or 20x20x9001, in a 30x30 village with on average, 16-32 people? This would take a few centuries perhaps (rough estimate) and by the time you find the village, they have 18 houses... Here's what a village would look like with one of the wonders:
Note: The grey area is the Acropolis itself. Imagine this in a desert or plains. (or any flat area, i.e not a mountainous area where the Acropolis is. Don't take the picture literally, either. The hill would be a plateau (flat-topped mountain) but it generates along with the village, which only generates in flat areas. (Deserts or plains) These should be generated in specific biomes, alone and mostly ruined.

I agree with pretty much everything SolEiji said. It would be interesting to see some of the more ancient structures, or even ones genericized to the Minecraft world - as I like the Minecraft world not being our own (but close enough to allow people to make real-world custom maps, machinima, etc). It would be especially cool if each particular structure had a hard cap of one per world, so that you could use them as landmarks/navigational aids, or distinguishing features of player-made cities on multiplayer. (Though, of course, nothing would prevent players from duplicating the wonders through their own effort. :/ )
I think villages probably will eventually have this, maybe different size villages too, like suburban towns and then bustling cities. We are already seeing this with the addition of the pyramids in the desert villages.
Needs more "mystery".
I like ancient ruins sue me
