Whenever a zombie or skeleton is about to drop something when killed, the mob itself should be wearing whatever it is that it will drop. For example, zombie's that drop iron helmets would be wearing them when they come at you. What about records, you say? Well, they could either dangle on their sides or be shown on their back, and possible on their head like a silly hat. It would add some humor as well as value to your monster slaughter selection.
DISCLAIMER: Mobs that drop swords will have them shown, but will not do any extra damage.

from some of the ideas you've made... I think your avatar is a self shot of you.
Records are not a rare mob drop, they drop from creepers when killed by skeleton arrows.

Also, this would ruin the name " RARE MOB DROP "
Excuse me? this guy has soem very good ideas... Especially the one about the different kinds of wood. Seriously, I reckon your avatar must be a similair shot of you, too. I mean, it's looks a bit like a griefer and troll, if you know what I mean. And I hope you realise there are several kinds of records? What do you use as a jukebox, a gravel block or something?
Anyway, On Topic - I think this is a good idea! But it would require changing rare mob drops into rare drop mobs, and making mobs spawn with items on them rarely, rather than mobs dropping items rarely.

Excuse me, but that was my comment you just read there, bub.
Thank you for the comments, except for the one troll. I was not aware the records dropped only when skeletons kill them, from some of my experiences, in the heat of battle, I thought a creeper dropped a record, but a skeleton must have killed it. I realize this suggestion isnt perfect, but it is thought provoking.

How can something know how it's going to die when it first spawns?

I agree. It's simply not realistic in a game with the undead and exploding leafy monsters.
