What if Minecraft had a time-travel update? Cool right? My idea of this kind of update is WAY different from others, however...
As you enter the portal/time-machine, you enter a world not much different from your current world. Same blocks, same caves, and same mountains. It all seems normal until you look into the distance and notice a few towers. They intrigue you, so you get closer. Close enough to see more buildings, and smaller towers. These towers look extremely advanced, far past the technology redstone can acquire. It seems as though the portal moved forward in time, but the update log clearly stated a "blast to the past."
Confused, you pound the "w" key and get even closer. As you near the the city, your eye catches a door opening. Out comes a pink little man staring you straight in the face. PIGMEN!! Now more stumble out of the massive futuristic structures, and stroll around the town They begin turning on the lights, unlocking the doors, and some are even getting into position to start selling their items.
You begin interacting with the pigmen. Bargaining, socializing, and learning about their advanced electrical systems. You enjoy your time in the massive city, but you just remember that you can use the portal in different way. You do so with high hopes.
Your dreams of this second dimension are crushed when you begin to see a blood red sky cloud over the once beautiful blue sky. The once happy pigmen are scurrying around in fear, some are set on fire and turn into the familiar zombie pigmen, and then get sucked into the nether for eternity. Others are turned into the helpless pigs you know today. You soon learn the world is coming to an end for the Pigmen, the unworthy are damned to an eternity in the nether, and the rest are forced into pigs. This apocalypse goes on for the longest time. The cities are slowly destroyed and then decompose and the bottom of the world into bedrock. Once it's all over, you return home.
You now recognize the pigs that you slay for food were once a great civilization. You also realize the Zombie Pigmen don't attack because they are in hell by their own fault. Only the power of thunder can reconstruct the pigman spirit in modern pigs. Unfortunately, they do not become full pigmen, only the same zombies that roam the Nether. Perhaps the destruction of a great civilization must happen for there to be a new one, and that new one, is yours...
Summary:
-New Portal with 2 ways to enter
-Travel back in time to view the highly advance Pigman civilization at two different time periods
-Trade and interact with pigmen
-Same world, all player placed blocks are erased and set back to plain world
-Know the origin of the world's bedrock
-Watch the randomly generated cities build up and crumble down
-A totally new outlook on pigs
This makes an interesting story but I don't know how this would fit into the game. Maybe instead of a time-machine/portal there are randomly generated ruins that have paintings inside that give you clues as to who the pigmen where, how they became half zombie, and how they ended up in the nether. It would tell your story of the pigmen but in picture form. Very good idea.

I also had another idea, Notch had the idea for a sky dimension, so why not make it the pigman heaven? Peaceful and energetic pig angles fly around and enjoy there eternity in heaven. However, if you attack one of the angles, you are suddenly sent flying off the floating island, a telekinetic attack. MUCH more dangerous than zombie pigmen attacking you with swords. Also, similar to zombie pigmen spawning after thunder hitting a pig within it's range, if a pig is within range of a creeper explosion (only other natural disaster i could think of) it turns into an angle. What do you think?
