So far theres only one type of village. The dull village with pretty much nothing interesting. But i'm here to save the day with this suggestion. Village types! So you'll have the excitement of going into mountains, mushroom biome and stuff with the hope villages will be there.
So heres the types:
Mountain villages: These would be in overhangs in mountains. There would be platforms sticking out of the wall with pathways to houses. Of course villagers would be running around. But these would be carrying picks and would have dark robes. There would be about 4 blacksmith houses per mountain village. The chests would contain unsmelted ores like coal ore, iron ore, gold ore and rarely diamond ore. These villages would be a bit rare. Paths would be leading to the top of the overhang where there would be one or two farms growing wheat. EDIT: The villagers would be short and would often been seen with beards. They are basically dwarf villagers and often they will be seen exploring caves near their villages.
Ocean villages: These would have wooden pathways out in oceans. Floating houses made of wood would be connected to the paths. The villagers would have light blue robes and would often been seen carrying maps or compasses. At the end of pathways would be docks with boats floating near them. There would rarely be blacksmiths here. In the chests would be maps, compasses and rarely bows. There would be a lot of farming areas, growing wheat and watermelons. EDIT: Villagers would rarely have a moustache and may be wearing white caps.
Jungle villages: These villages would be treehouses connected by wooden bridges. The villages here would have dark orange robes and would sometimes be carrying swords and fishing rods. There would be no blacksmiths in jungle villages. Jungle villages would require alot of large trees nearby to spawn. There would be many farms here. Pumpkins and wheat would be growing. EDIT: These villagers may be hostile if attacked and would be slightly shorter than normal villagers.
Mushroom villages: These villages would usually spawn in mushroom biomes. The villagers would be wearing purple robes and would be carrying mushroom stew normally. There would be 1 or 2 blacksmiths here. In the chests would be mushrooms, mushroom stew and steak. There would be mushroom farms here. Basically mycelium with mushrooms growing on them. There would often be pens with mooshrooms inside. EDIT: Mushroom villagers could sometimes have 1 or 2 red mushrooms growing on their heads. Mushroom villager children will sprint around giant mushrooms.
Forest villages: These would be villages located in clearings in forest biomes. They would have no blacksmiths. The villagers would have dark green robes and would sometimes be carrying hoes, saplings and seeds. There would be a lot of farms, growing wheat, pumpkins and watermelons. These villages would be rare. EDIT: These villages would have furnaces in each house and would often have crafting tables. The villagers would be taller than other villagers and would move fast, representing they are elf villagers. They would fight back agaisnt zombies.
Snow villages: These would be in taiga biomes and tundra biomes. Some trees would be cleared and would allow the village to be spawned. There would be 4 or 5 blacksmiths. The villagers would be wearing thick blue and white robes. In the chests there would be cooked porkchops, leather tunics and cooked chicken. The villagers would have pet wolves that follow them around. Villagers would often be carrying food or bows. These villages would normally spawn. EDIT: Villagers would move around slowly and run away from attackers.
If a mountain village and a forest village spawn close to eachother the villagers will usually invade eachothers villages and attack, retreating after 10 seconds of fighting.
To all of you people who think Notch is still working on the game, he stopped working on Minecraft in late 2011. Get your facts straight and stop spamming his twitter about Minecraft updates.
I think it would be a bad idea to add cavemen as this would probably be confused with herobrine crap.

I like this idea! as for AnthroGuys suggestion. maybe not cavemen in deep caverns, but maybe in the outer rims of mountain biomes there could be some caves were some npc's live.
While I like all of these I have a problem... Everyvillage is going to have a blacksmith in it, how else did they cut down the trees? with their hands? No, they cut them down using Axes... they're not superhumans like us as players who can break trees with our bare hands...
Otherwise I have no problem though it'll be a logistical nightmare for anyone trying to make this happen... through a mod or otherwise...

How?
Anyway, these are good ideas... But the way you had them wearing different coloured robes was irrespective of the fact that Villagers already each have different robes.

Excuse me, but that was my comment you just read there, bub.
Could you describe the cultural differences? I think each should use completely different shops and have vastly different architecture.

No, there has never, ever been a sandbox game with a story or ending... except Grand Theft Auto... and Saints Row... and Red Dead Redemption... and Crack Down... and Assassins Creed...
Editing the topic with some of the suggestions, thanks guys.
