Whilst pondering about fire and the like, a certain something came to mind;
What if, for example, going to extremely high and/or low altitudes caused a change in the temperature? Going deep into a cave system, especially at night, would eventually start to effect you. You'd need to make a coat (With say, string... Maybe you could make a simple article of clothing from wild grass) to stay warm, or risk death.
Alternatively, a fire could be used to keep warm, but that wouldn't last long underground...
I know mining is already hazardous enough as it is, but I feel this would add yet another dimension to it, specifically adding an element of danger to even the so-called "peaceful" mode.
Maybe i am wrong, but isn't mines hot as hell?
I know that wen you enter a cave it is a little more cold than the air outside, but it gets more hot as deep you get (as far i know about)
Not quite, mines are generally cold. You'd have to go VERY deep before its starts to warm up. Unless you were mining under a volcano or an active area (like hot springs for example) , which isn't the smartest thing to do :tongue.gif:

Well, it may only be warmer because of a lack of wind chill factor. Hot air rises, so it just rises out and escapes a cave and you would have to go very deep before the pressure starts to warm you up a tad.
Fun fact, mines tend to get hot when you have lots of bodies in there generating heat and smashing rocks which builds up more heat. Other than that, yeah, you have to go pretty deep before it gets hot. Mountain mines are a little different as some are volcanic in nature, pushing bubbles of cooling magma to their surface, this forms granite which may later become clay depending on weather activity. But in the Sierras, you could freeze to death outside, but go deep into a mountainside cave and warm up, of course doing either is risky, and you should probably be trying to get out of the mountains to lower altitudes in any case. Just some of my marginal knowledge of geographical phenomena.
Everyone's always talking about wool cloaks or sweaters in this thread, but look at the other end of the spectrum, maybe we need to design leaf short shorts for the hot places?

Thoughts? Opinions?
I don't to get freezed just because my underground kingdom is too big! :sad.gif:
