Hello everyone. I know there is probably more than a thousand threads posted, begging Notch to add it, so i'm just gonna cut to the chase: Minecraft needs a story mode! I was thinking something like this:
The Story
You start out flying through a void of darkness. Suddenly a burst of light appears and Notch and Netherender (the evil guy) appear in the void. Notch says to himself (in subtitles) that there is nothing to watch or see except for darkness. So, he creates Steve and the world of Minecraft. Netherender creates The End and The Nether (and, endermen). Netherender tries to kill Steve but Notch won't let him. Notch places a barrier over the wonderful world of Minecraft with Steve in it. Netherender attacks Notch and mortally wounds Notch (I was going to say kill, but that would kill the whole goal of the game). Notch (on dying breath) says to Steve that he must restore Notch back to full power (you have to get two key items that you get from fighting two bosses) and defeat Netherender. There should be a boss in the nether that gives you a potion or item that can heal Notch, and a scroll that helps you locate the stronghold and it should have instructions on it that tell you how to activate the End portal. Every time you give the injured Notch a item that heals him, he'll give you a hint or tip (the more health that the item restores, the better the hint or tip). There will be an ORGANIZED objective system that gives you specific instructions on what to do. After you defeat the ender dragon, and you get that item back to Notch, he will weaken Netherender and you must defeat him in an epic final showdown. (Netherender will be able to fly but has a ranged attack that takes time to charge up, and he can only charge when he is on the ground which is when he is vulnerable. You can use and make any type of golem during this fight to aid you. You can also build a house in the area as there is tons of End stone laying around. Please comment any weaknesses this may have or suggest more ideas.
Though I'm not sure this is really in the theme of Minecraft as a sandbox, it could work as an expansion.
In jeb_'s recent Reddit AMA, he mentioned using expansion packs as game-changers, so your idea could certainly work as one of those.
didn't notch announce that Alpha? Overall, I don't want a story mode, I prefer storyless mode. Maybe a randomly generated optional story where you explore your world looking for the next part of your goal? And it eventually leads you to a stronghold and the end where you face the Enderdragon?
Real Story: Steve is experimenting with crafting recipes and accidently creates an eye of ender. He tries to use it to teleport, but it flies randomly, so he follows it and kills the dragon. The End.

I don't like the idea of having an actual campaign like most games where you beat it and it's done. Instead we should have an adventure mode where you can download player made campaigns/adventures. Like adventure maps, only with proper NPCs and quests and things. That way it would be much more fun for the players and the devs could focus on other things instead of making a story.

Jeb mentioned that there will be a potential Adventure Game Mode.
