I am not sure what causes this but every world I generate I get large choppy pieces of land, and the caves are so over lapped that there are giant floating chunks of blocks and no really defined caves. The caves just look like random TNT damage more than anything.
The images below are worlds generated from 1.2.4 the choppy land looks small but I get it pretty much everywhere and really bad between biomes.
I use to love mining and exploring caves but now giant blown up looking caverns is all I have to look forward to.
HOLY CRAP, YES!!! I thought it was cool at first when the VERY OLD seed, "TnT" was popular, but it just got annoying. I found the choppy land occurring with swamp biomes, and the caves that usually are connected with ravines are just very horrible, how can you explore it without a crap load of stairs or filling up part of the ground with cobble/smothstone. It's just a pain -,-...
well not completely yes some of the stars are a pain but i still have never found more than one or two of the places void of dirt notice two people on this whole forums have responded with these problems. an any way most times the surrounding dirt to them is always one block thick. its not like the dirt is completely disapering making a four block deep hole its part of the erosion its supposed to do that.
