Hello, Minecrafters and forum explorers. Now, I was thinking the trees are lacking in a bit...variety? Sure, the new jungle biome has incorporated the new jungle trees, but what about islands and beaches? I was thinking they should get a type of tree that can grow in sand. You know what I mean...Palm Trees!
They are just so lovely, aren't they? They just scream tropical and I think they would fit a beachhead or survival island well. Which would also incorporate a new type of food, coconuts! They should most likely take more time to eat and would be as filling as an apple.
Who agrees with me?
Agreed! I'd love to see palm trees spawn in beach biomes and maybe even desert biomes if there is an oasis nearby. Another wood and leaf type would be cool to have too. Like you said, the jungle wood and leaf type was a nice addition, but a fifth one will offer a little more variety, nothing too wrong with that.
As for the coconut thing, I'd be cool with that too. I'm assuming they would behave the same way as apples do where you have a slim chance of getting a coconut from breaking the leaves or from leaf decay. Simply eating it for two hunger sounds reasonable.
I don't understand the fascination with coconuts. Palm trees are fine on their own, but why does there always need to be a coconut involved? There is such a thing as "too cliche".
And, before someone says it, no. Coconuts do not make the tree nor the beach any more "defined" or whatever than randomly spawning super-sonic deathrays.

I wasn't going to say it defines it. I just think it would be a nice addition to the little amount of things that actually do fall from trees. And what do you expect to get from a palm tree? An apple? It's just got a practicality. And, for beginners on their wacky journey, if they're on an island with no fishing rods or animals to kill anywhere nearby, a piece of food falling from a tree is handy
How are you going to make Palm fronds with MC blocks.....?
Plus a coconut should be a block that you hit, then it falls like gravel, then you need an axe or sword to bust it open for coconut flesh. If left on the sand it grows into a new tree. If taken to a crafting bench and combined with suger cane and melon bits and milk you get a coco-cocktail to drink....

A good idea, and I was thinking the leaf blocks would either be the size of slabs or just normal, it's at least got to be similar
yeah, palm trees would be nice. you could let them spawn in beaches (since thy re-added them in 1.1) and you could combine a coconut with a bucket to get coconut milk (pretty much has the same effects as cow milk)

Right, and you could use that as a substitute to cow milk in recepies. Now if only we could replace eggs with something as well
The palm trees should be 3/4 the thickness of ordinary trees, and the wood turns into 2 planks instead of 4. Only since palm trees are thinner than others.
A have a question too.
How will the tree appear to be curved? It would have to be a lot thicker to look good, but if its thick than it would look like a pretty weird palm tree.
I absolutely love the idea of date trees in biomes. There are very little animals in a desert, and there are almost no sources of food in a desert. Dates would make sense because you could farm food. It would add a whole new aspect to Survival Islands.
All good ideas, and replying to the above post, basically, it would probably have to be thinner block for the tree but spread out like a root at the base sort of. And smaller blocks for coconuts would be a smart move as well, I can somewhat picture it now
I wholly support this suggestion. I would really enjoy the addition of tropical palm trees simply for the atmosphere of isolation. Coconuts would be a nice bonus.
I can see myself planting palm tree saplings, but I'm not sure how to imagine palm tree wood in construction.

I was thinking it would kind of have the same texture of jungle wood but having the plank color of that grey wood

Answer: Purple, because aliens don't wear hats.

There really should be one. There are bodies of water, beaches and islands, but they do need to be a biome. Makes perfect sense too
