Notch has increased the building height to 256 blocks above sea level, so why aren't the mountains larger?
I think there should be huge scale mountain ranges with snowy caps and maybe even a foggy mist at the summit like in real life. wouldn't that be epic? the mountains should at least go up to 190 blocks high now and have allot more character than before. I'm not saying every mountain in the biome should be like this, only 1 or 2 mountains in the should be this big and the rest of the mountains in the biome are more rounded and normal. i realize not everyone have the strongest computer, but we can make it one of the world types before you generate a world.
Im just saying there is allot more potential for the minecraft world now, we have trees that sre 40 blocks high now, why cant we have larger mountains as well? Maybe someone can create a mod called "better mountains mod".

~UPDATE~
I realize not everyone have the strongest computer, but we can make it one of the world gen options before you generate a world if its that serious. and im pretty sure the Jungle Biome alone causes people more performance problems than all the other Biomes combined, I actually get better fps in the Extreme Hils Biome, so i don't think bigger mountains would be a problem.

if a new dimension is to be introduced, having rare and necessary materials high atop an epic mountain with flying mobs, inclement weather, or other dire hazards would add a very diverse dynamic to gameplay, as well as vastly improve the already fantastic aesthetics. An example would be, in regards to the potential of a dream world, a very rare flower that only grows at the highest of altitudes that, when brewed into a potion and consumed, will allow access to said dimension when you sleep.
Well, i "think" notch could have added these features as well, but the main problem comes in
some people already have trouble at running minecraft on their Computer, more Blocks to generate means EVEN MORE lag for them
not saying that your ideias are bad, but, if anything alike shall exist, it NEEDS to be an Option. (Like an World option, Max. generation height :128, and so goes)
(Also, OP, your information is incorrect, the top of the world is at 256, but Sea level is still at 64~, therefore, the mountain could go as high as 180 blocks or so)

it doesn't matter your amount of reps or post numbers, what matters is : Did you make'em count?
This has been on my mind for a while now. I would really like to see this in minecraft. If the giant mountains could be increased to maybe 4 per mountain biome that would be good too.

To all of you people who think Notch is still working on the game, he stopped working on Minecraft in late 2011. Get your facts straight and stop spamming his twitter about Minecraft updates.

true, but i do'n,t think mountains cause of low fraps on weaker computers, trees cause me more lagg than the mountains do, especially the jungle biome. if notch already made a biome that weaker PCs cam barely handle then i dont see why not make a better mountain biome,
Currently, in order to progress to the "End of the game", much of the time is spent below ground getting the necessary materials or at sea level hunting mobs. Especially if a new dimension is to be introduced, having rare and necessary materials high atop an epic mountain with flying mobs, inclement weather, or other dire hazards would add a very diverse dynamic to gameplay, as well as vastly improve the already fantastic aesthetics.

If one had full control over the varibles in the terrain generation code, then people who have medium/low performance computers will be able to reduce the number/size of biomes that generate the most amount of lag.
(Indeed I support nearly all the additional terrain generation motions here, but rather than each one indervidually, we need to think as a community how to make our wishes possible in a practical sense, i.e. rather than petitioning Mojang for lots of little items of content indervidually, how to make a system that allows all this content to be added by the community on a 'mix and match' basis see my compliation of ideas thread; http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1137882-compilation-of-thoughts-on-minecraft-terrain-generation/)
