I think that glass shards should be added into the game. Basically, If a piece of glass breaks it drops 1-3 glass shards. These shards could be melted down in a furnace to make glass panes. This way accidentally breaking glass won't be a total waste of time. Please tell me what you think. (=

I don't think sand is even hard to get, not interested (No offense!)
This seems like a pretty good idea. Misplacing glass is annoying.
Also, you'd average 2 glass panes per glass block here, a bit lower than the 2.67 glass panes per block you get from crafting them. So this seems fair.
Also, @sand is common guy: If you've got a convenient desert, maybe. Otherwise, if you want to make a large glass structure or a lot of potions (especially splash potions), you'll need to go sand-hunting a lot.

However, where do you get sand if you live in a snowy pine forest next to a frozen ocean? You will have to walk for days to find even a small beach.
