I support this because It would allow some people, such as myself, can make beautiful castles or gothic style churches or just plain awesome creations.
This post is about colored glass, I can dig it, majorly.. Can't complain about dyed leather armor any more (besides its kinda ugly and the colors are a little pale, and we need vanity slots plus dyeable jeans/t-shirt/casual-type clothes).. I've been waiting on colored torches (lights in general) and colored glass and beds (RED RED RED RED RED RED RED) for a million years.. All it seems like it'd be is a little simple recoloring and a few basic reactions (bed + dye, glass + dye, water + dye).. Water would be a little tricky when red water flowed into blue water, etc.. But the real reason I bought Minecraft is because going by the ultra-low quality of the graphics I figured new content would be flying at us at a rapid rate.. That isn't whats happening here After the dev team replaced their normal human beds for massive nest-dens of hundred dollar bills where they sleep like cashmere vampires every night, I really figured the development would have at least doubled.. Still no such luck :| But we do have lots of half-done ports to different OS that'll leech time away from Minecraft Prime for who knows how long.. (I'd hit enter here if my enter key worked).. What I can hand Mojang and Minecraft, definitely, is the general solidity of each MC build. I've had very little that crashes me, but with so little content addition coupled with long periods between releases (and mounds of cash), it better be stable! (All my cash ranting stems from checking the net for update news and only finding NEW MERCHANDISE! and RESERVE YOUR EXPENSIVE MINECON TIX TODAY! one too many times..) And lots of other games keep lots of content flowing while staying game-ending-bug free.. Just seems to me like if they really had their finger on ol' Minecraft's pulse the amount of colored wool would have doubled (was the intense pixel-art explosion not enough to convince you?).. Plus the single red bed has been irritating me for ages (lack of tables/chairs also), along with the terrible enemy selection/variance (simple recolors and size changes could add tons of variety), the odd focus on redstone and complex mechanisms (which I've never really enjoyed and would enjoy a lot more if it were simpler/dumber/more accessible.. Most I do is switches/pressure plates for direct door opening or switching on redstone lights..) Needs random portal rifts from the Nether that can open in the main world and let enemies out.. For a game with "mine" in the title there is a terrible amount of metals/gems available, and we also need more weapon/equipment materials above, and below, diamond.. Ability to enchant gems, or find enchanted gems, and some slots for accessories.. Townspeople need pointless fetch quests and home-design requests, or slay-me-20-zombies quests (waypoints would help with this, or even numbered houses/citizens..). Been wanting animal collars that allow you to claim an animal as your own, preventing them from unloading/disappearing)..The fishing mechanic is as barebones as it can possibly be, and the dungeons are also beyond basic.. More natural structures, too, like grotto caves and tree rings and underground pockets filled with monsters. Could generate hermits (one house, one villager). I understand that lots of this can be remedied with mods, but Mojang should also be aware that the world isn't blind to how much easy money they've made coupled with the fact that you can't copyright digging implements or the act of moving earth. Someone with a better setup and tons more content could sweep in any minute and take it all away, fairly easily. To sum it up, after vomiting up this verbose rant, is that everything that's been added is awesome, but there are some very easy bases that could be cheaply/quickly built upon. AND YES! COLOR THE GLASS!! THE TORCHES, THE BEDS!! The armor could use dyeable accents as well (trim/plumes etc).. MORE FISH, MORE WOOL, MORE AQUATIC ENEMIES, BIGGER ENEMIES. A lot of these ideas are old, or covered in mods, or shot down by Mojang already, but if you truly love one of them then champion that lil idea; lift him up into the sun and march to the gritty death with said idea! Been wanting glass stairs and doors for ages Okay, I'm going away now, sorry if I derailed or seem like a troll baby, I just feel like we deserve a better product based on the time its been out and the simplified graphics, and with replayability improvements MC could become one of the first games that continues to sell for hundreds of years.
As I have a thread that is kind of related to this I decided I was way behind on commenting on this idea. Not that I need to though, over 1400 people already voiced my opinion.
I like it, and think that any number of bugs that this adds is worth the time to fix if it means this is implemented, even if it is just the basic version without colored light.

One thing though. I think it would be great if colored glass didn't glow. Some people might want glass to be colored to make things like "Stained Glass" from Churches (just an example).
Other thing is that I don't think you have added the other remaining dye color such as black (squid ink), light grey, dark grey, magenta and brown (cocoa beans) (not sure if I'm missing out on any others). As for the reason why I think black/the grey shades should be added is because some people might be able to make other various creation such as making Limos with those black/grey shaded window (like in real life). But of course I'm not saying that black colored glass should be a fully blacked out thing. (If you get what I mean)
And if you want it to glow you should add in glowstone dust to it so that it would glow. So that people would be able to get glowing glass.
Also I'm not quite sure but I don't think that colored glass apply to glass panes. I hope it does. If you ever want to make a cool looking aquarium built into the walls (though there really won't be any fish in it), it would look good. But if it does apply then I hope that you do state that in the post as it won't get people confused! I would be really grateful for that!
I hope that Colored glass will make it in an update sooner or later!
After starting playing Terraria I realize just HOW much this is needed for the minecraft-ambiences. Terraria is the best example of showing how it could be utilized when it comes to lighting, all the different lights really gives an additional charm to the game.
Galactic_muffin, have you considered using Terraria an a point of reference, as to what the light could be used for?

There may be a couple things you are misinformed on or confused about. Which is to be expected considering the huge amounts of information int he OP so i will clear a couple of these up.
~ The colored glass suggested does not glow, it only changes the color of light that passes through it from an adjacently placed light source (ie place a glowstoneblock next to a purple glass block, then surround the remaning sides of glowstone with cobblestone the light that the glowstone makes is now purple.)
~ We have discussed how black grey and white dies could be used when made into colored glass in the topic. some ideas is brown would create, well, brown glass (much like brown beer bottles).
------ Black would create tinted glass which would like you suggested be like the tinted glass for cars. some ideas include it would only allow the viewer to see out of one side while the other side cannot be seen though or it changes the brightness of the light passing through.
------ Bonemeal would create a white clouded glass. You would not be able to see through it but light would pass through and it would illuminate the area with white light. Much like daylight.
------ Gray dies would just create different tints of glass.
~Colored glass panes has been suggested many times but it is not declared part of this suggestion due to the way glass panes are coded in Minecraft. If perhaps you added many different glass panes together, the combining algorithm that is used for glass panes right now may not apply. Unless code is changed. But that is the very reason of this topic; to convince Mojang to make some changes.

Awesome! :3
We discussed similar instalments of your tinted glass idea for black dye. As I described above, i think the general concensus was that black dye when added to glass would create glass much like tinted glass on a car. Either it decreases the amount of light passing through or it only enables a person to see through one side of the glass (side without light because light shined on the glass will make that side appear opaque). If you wanted I could lik your topic in the cool ideas by you guys section of the OP

Grate idea! I like the idea of making light change colour. It would make a nice decoration for your house!
even the coloured sand could come in handy! if you don't have any wool then coloured sand can be used instead!
Look at some fireworks.... If I have blue firework and I fire about 5 fireworks together, it makes blue light.... mabye colored light is in minecraft Just find it in firework code...
actually, the light that you see a firework give off or "flash" is not light at all. Its just a single color with opacity fade on the edges. If it were real light, it would reflect the same color on blocks around it. Which it currently does not. But if colored light were added and worked the same way as tortch light, fireworks could reflect the color of their flash on its surroundings as it goes off. There would be a very noticeable difference.
Not the whole conversation I don't think.
Here I am.
