Well, they wanna re-do the lighting engine now, add this now. No sense in waiting for them to rewrite the lighting engine for the "X" time.
I'm afraid your comment lacks coherency. For example, who is "they" and what do you mean by saying "redo the lighting engine now" and "add this now"? Are you referring to the supporters of this suggestion wanting colored glass to be implemented or the developers of Mojang and their intent in redoing the lighting engine? Lastly, what are you trying to say with your last statement, "No sense in waiting for them to rewrite the lighting engine"? Waiting so that we can do WHAT, exactly?

I think that if the Minecraft developers at Mojang were to add "colored glass" then the best time to add "colored glass" would be now. Since the Minecraft developers at Mojang are rewriting the lighting engine for Minecraft version 1.5, (the next large Minecraft Update), it would make sense for them to implement a "colored glass" into Minecraft now so that the Minecraft developers at Mojang don't have to rewrite it again later if they were to add "colored glass".

Great idea, but there should be included my idea, which is colored smooth stone, it makes colored building fireproof instead of having colored wool buildings

Your welcome. But I was thinking about this. If someone uses more than one colored glass block, it would create far more colors then the dyes we use. If it does, then couldn't the Minecraft developers at Mojang use the same possible colors used for dyeing leather armor? If I am right, that means 12326391 colors of light? Hey, if you want to make sure I saw what you said, quote me on it.
this would make Mojang have to work out a ton of other variables and coding, as well as having to add new variables for texture packs, possibly even changing the texture pack method. And i think every last bit of this is an amazing idea. you back up the project with plenty of points and the idea is perfect. i love it, and i support this project.

Some people would say yes, because of this statement: "This is ja very cool mod". Which would assume that you completely skipped over the note at the top of the OP that clearly states that this is NOT a mod. -_^
Also, dying sand before smelting makes no physical sense; the dye would either separate or become one with the glass. If you were taking this suggestion that literally, then you have clearly not played Minecraft. Everything is done in exaggeration. Early colored glass was first formed through impurities present in the glass sand such as iron dust.
But I'm sure you have a logical explanation for how putting 3 diamonds together on a stick to make a functional pickaxe also makes "physical sense". -_^
Also please re-read the OP, I have provided more than one option for crafting colored glass as stated here in your post: If you are still unsatisfied with colored sand being a step in creating of colored glass, we have discussed other options as colored sand is only a suggestion. Please look at "Cool Ideas by you guys" above for more information.
I just realised something; you cannot create a colour map for wool and sand because, unlike plants where the colours are dependant upon biome, wool and possibly sand would be coloured with dyes. This means that there would be external entities which would make wool and sand unmovable by pistons.
EDIT: Also, dying sand before smelting makes no physical sense; the dye would either separate or become one with the glass.
You could just somehow map the existing 16 data values to use points on the leather color map.

Leather has colour maps? Hmm... I'll take a look at the texture files...
It might not be an actual file, rather something that OpenGL supports (tinting.) You just need RGB values, which can be looked up in a table somewhere for the corresponding data value.

Is this good enough for you? Galactic_Muffin?
