im not reading 65 pages to see if someone asked this, but what happens if a glowstone block is surrounded by one type of colored glass then the glass is surrounded by a different color of glass. the glowstone thing is what makes this cool, but its a lot more complicated than the pictures are.
Well, in my original idea, I have it that only the colored glass blocks that are placed adjacent to the light source effects the color of light emitted. Anything outside that does not. This was chosen due to simplicity and striving to avoid extra processing power to blend colors. However, if the engine would be able to handle blending efficiently, then yes I suppose having more than one 'coating' of colored glass would be possible and would change the light color.
However, I fail to see how that would be a needed feature or use of the glass and colored light.
my brain just went boom and i was like noooooooo! but he was like jk and i was totaly LOL!
but awesome idea and i really support how much effort you have put into this whole thing, cant wait to see the day when i can get on minecraft an dye some glass!
Just take a look at all those Notches, this guy is serious!
but even more seriously. I am still hopeful, as Jeb has decided to put the light engine rewrite on hold until 1.5, which gives this suggestion even more time to reach him! Man, I can't even begin to describe how much this awesome suggestion would alter the entirety of minecraft to the better!
Love the Idea, if it isn't released then you should totally make a mod. Just to show everyone how cool it would be. Then they would have to put it in the game lol.
Ok ya you like make paint and then you can put the paint and the glass in the crafting table or take die and put the die and the paint in the crafting table.
Instead of colouring the sand, It would be great first melting the sand, then getting normal glass, and then, if you add a dye, the glass will be coloured.
I say, because coloured sand would replace coloured wool, And I don“t like the idea of creating, for example 8 types of sand (the same quantity of the possible colours) to 8 types of glass.
You can directly dye the glass, and ready.
The idea could be used to decorate, and to put in some dungeons and abandoned mines...
Now I like this idea, and I might just be having an really dumb thought... but on a TV there are many pix's which change color giving it what seems movement, unless I'm wrong if a person were to stand a fair distance away while someone else pushed buttons to change colors of the block (if possible) it could be a HUGE HUGE TV... But it would only be able to show a few things. Still worth it, I'm I being dumb at this time? (very late) or do I have an idea that might be able to work. (not to say anything about lag problems)
This is an excellent idea.
As much as I think it's frightening to go down a pitch black cave and fighting zombies in the dark, giving the cave some atmospheric light would greatly enhance Minecrafts spelunking.
Now I'm not sure if this was the intention of the stained glass, but putting down a torch and notice cobblestone is quite a boring way to find a dungeon. Seeing the devilish red light at the end of a tunnel would be a lot more exciting.
It opens up a few other options too, for example; special lakes deep underground with shimmering blue light, which would come as a blessing for the tired eyes of an adventurer. They could make so many fascinating places, and if they rework the lighting code and implemented the idea of coloured light, Minecraft would become even more beautiful, maybe even a bit mysterious.
In other words, I support this.
exactly this^ which is why it cant be a mod. It MUST be vanilla.

Yay! And colored sand always makes me think of the old 'Magic Sand' "toy" they used to sell.
