Stained glass is an old want of mine that I never stopped wanting.

Make texture packs? Tired of people telling you to upload better screencaps? Send me a message with a link to your pack & I can help. (Check my Planet Minecraft blogs for photography examples). http://www.planetminecraft.com/member/likalaruku/
I am a developer myself; we have a team of 8 developing for Xbox live, android and windows phones. But don't worry, we are far from competitors since our games are completely opposite from each other. But we are similar in the fact that both of our games are heavily inspired from another... except we both build a better game.
Dinnerbone's post sure look like it could be a hint to the implementation of improved light, and I really, REALLY hope that this suggestion is what he is vaguely giving us a hint of. It actually fits the update in all possible ways, as this is a decoration really living up to the name, minecraft's limits in creation of environments will never be the same with this! Not only that , but the light engine is being altered right now! This is the chance, not later, and i think there are quite good odds that this is planned for the upcoming update!

I like this idea very much. I support!
And if colored glass was added, we could make stained glass windows, like CastleSwinger said.
And if colored glass was added and paint then we could make rainbow houses. YAY.
Dinnerbone is going to re-rewrite the engine, since there are a lot of bugs. Or also maybe he forgot to add something...............
He just recently tried to fix all of the lighting bugs in the most recent snapshot release, which he said wasn't anything to do with making a new lighting engine it was just trying to fix some bugs, but unfortunately the fix for the dark spots all over the world caused too many problems so he removed the fix.
He currently does not believe that the dark-spots lighting problem will be fixed in 1.4 and doesn't know when it will be. However; he has fixed the slab and stair lighting problems.
At no time during his attempts as fixing these lighting bugs in the last week did he say there would be a new lighting engine for 1.4. So I don't know when that's supposed to happen.
Read more Here, includes a link to a mod that gets rid of dark-spots in your world as you move around in it.

I really don't need the mod for it, but I can swear I read a tweet where he said he would have to re-write it.
I did a quick search and didn't see it mentioned so I thought I would bring it up.
Many people are saying (as in speculation and unsubstantiated claims, I haven't seen any links yet) that the new leather dying system which allows for a very broad assortment of armor colors is going to be implemented to wool and perhaps other things (beds, wolf collars, saddles, whatever). My question or thought is, would this be good for stained glass or would it pose a new technical challenge that will prevent it being added.
I don't quite understand the whole situation, but I believe if implemented, it would mean having a huge pallet of block colors for wool or stained glass would take up very small amount of texture space as well as codding. That's a plus for stained glass variety as well as cutting the bulk of my technical argument against colored sand (now I have to rely on the weaker ones... joy). However, this may make the lighting mechanics too complicated to handle.

I don't think it's ever going to happen with wool, glass, or sand. You'd need to store tile entity data to keep track of more than 16 colors for a block. (Leather can be over 16 million different colors!) Having tile entity data means the blocks won't work with pistons, which would leave redstoners outraged given the usefulness of colored blocks for displays and such.
Beds already won't work with pistons, so by all means they should be dyeable. Non-blocks shouldn't be a problem either. The tinting system could still be applied to sand's limited colors to save texture space, but I imagine people will want to be able to use custom wool and glass textures per color.
im not reading 65 pages to see if someone asked this, but what happens if a glowstone block is surrounded by one type of colored glass then the glass is surrounded by a different color of glass. the glowstone thing is what makes this cool, but its a lot more complicated than the pictures are.

Block Story is not a mod. It is a different game, currently only for android.
Hmm perhaps you just didn't see it...
