I support this! I think coloured glass would be a great idea, and it would help many of the more aesthetic users with their creations. If I may add a suggestion, you might want to show the affects of glass panels on light colouring, as well as what torchlight, redstone light, light from fire, and light from lava would look like if coloured glass was in front of them..

Speaking of colored light, In my mod we are planning on adding at least 16 more dye colors into the mix, 32 max.
Here are a few wool colors made by one of the users on the ADD forum, Jakest123.
In order by row"
1. Red-orange: Yellow-orange: Yellow-green: Green (vanilla's green will be renamed dark green)
2. Indigo: Lavender: Maroon: Cobalt-blue
3. Goldenrod: Seaweed-green: Blue: Fuchsia (vanilla's blue will be renamed dark blue)
4. Grey-beige: Grey-violet: Beige: Dark brown
That brings the total amount of colors to 32.
We have some other colors in mind as well,
A light "Banana yellow",
Peach (for coloring skin tones!),
Cyan (current cyan wool is actually teal, not cyan, Cyan is this color. vanilla's cyan will be renamed teal.)
A darker orange
A darker, "Bubble gum pink"
Burgundy (between red and maroon)
And a gray between the current vanilla gray, and light gray. (Vanilla gray could be renamed "Dark gray)
Do you think adding all these colors to the lighting system would be possible? Or would the additional amount of colors cause too much strain on computers?

Why add so many things the mod doesn't need? Don't let it be like redpower with the content. If it isn't related to the mods main feature, don't add it. Make it as a separate mod. Also, WHERE IS THE CYAN?

SHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH.
This isn't the ADD forum, this is a thread about colored glass.
No going off topic please FHD.
Also the cyan is in there, you missed it. It's right underneath peach
48 different channels of light would add quite a bit of complexity to redstone devices, don't ya think
I hope we can mod that light sensor soon, I'm really looking forward to having it in my mod.
Unfortunately though, our main coder is MIA so progress on the mod has grinded to a halt.. we could use a few people who know a thing or two about performance and coding..
Sure I'll help, but I'd rather not be the main programmer. It is going to be a huge effort, and I'd like to focus on my own project. But if you do find a coder, I'd be happy to help designing the system.
It would be awesome to have it for vanilla, but since Jeb and his team are busy with MANY other things, I don't think we'll see this before 1.5. So, meanwhile, we can still manage to make a mod.
I am willing to help for the making of this mod. I have a few ideas as to how to make it, and make it as light as possible. (example : Instead of using one texture for each color of glass, using a "tint texture" that overlays with the glass texture, kind of like how grass is color (and even wood, now, I believe))
Damage values.
It's all about damage values with wool and wood. Tinting the glass like grass would not work very well.
The problem is not he colored glass (I made a mod : P),
It's the fact that It's nearly impossible to make colored light.
I hope some changes in 1.3 will change it bak like it was in the beta.

I want it to be vanilla too, but I also want this to be in my mod!
We are working on adding new dye colors to the game. 16 have already been decided, and we will add 32 maximum if all goes as planned.
It'll be a full color palette! Complete with indigo, yellow green, red-orange, lavender and more!

I have seen this suggested so many times and love the effort you have put on this thread, Jeb should really look into this.
Re-writing the entire lighting engine is the only option huh?
Well that sucks royally.
