I whole-heartedly support this idea. If they implement it I hope it would not take too long for it to reach the 360.
Porting it to 360 from java shouldn't be too hard, especially if they are using C# or XNA. But one thing I an certain about 360, they wouldn't have to worry too much about performance issues if they had to implement additional blending or overlay functions; considering I have worked with similar algorithms on the Xbox.
Nice pictures, i don't like the coloured glass idea, but the light seems pretty cool
Thanks! :3
Why don't you like the coloured glass idea? Seems that's the thing almost everyone wants most; Can't think of anything you would use coloured glass for?
Wow, I love it! I like how you put so much thought and effort into the way it would work. I definitely think this should be added to Minecraft. It would also be fun to create stained glass murals and such.
Lol, you finally added the vote. A few weeks ago I posted on this to do that.
lol yes I remember, but I may end up taking it down if it soaks up the activity here. The reason I didn't post a poll before was to help the topic gain some speed through posts. User reply's and posts are what keeps a topic alive not polls. If we can keep the topic alive then our chances of someone from mojang seeing it and possibly implementing it are better. I'll keep the poll up for a bit just to see what happens; the moment people start relying on the poll to voice their opinion is when I will remove it. So if you vote, please remember to add your thoughts too!
i want this more than any of the other suggestions ive seen
are those pics at the top of your post from some sort of mod? your green "crystals" and zombie "hive"?

I think it's just glowstone encased in glass with the default light colors edited for each screenshot. Probably just a mock-up.

Btw those pics weren't really made in Photoshop were they?
Unfortunately, they were; I painted the light in with Photoshop. I'm sorry if I got your hopes up. :/
They were only supposed to be examples of what it MC could be like if my suggestions were implemented.
There are currently no colored light mods for the MC 1.8 lighting engine.
Umm... About that. I'm pretty sure I'm using one... My game looks just like that with colored glass... It was supposed to be a realism mod with light fixes, blood, and a texture pack that made everything look so real. Like 526X tho.
It could be a pre-1.8 mod. what is the name of it?
The reason as to why you would use colored sand is that it's the way colored glass is made real life. And as for the light sensor, that has already been suggested (by me actually, great minds think alike)
Hah, I was actually gonna see if I could get the sensor in as a new device in my mod. I was actually hoping to expand upon the lighting mechanics with this idea, as well as some of the others we have floating around on my mod's forum.
One thing we are definately include one way or another is the whole "revers glowstone" idea, it will fit great with light level based redstone devices.
The color filter for the device might as well be built right into it, change the color by right clicking maybe?
Or maybe it would be more like
Sensor + blue colored glass = blues light sensor
Or maybe just puting a colored glass block next to/in front of the sensor will edit the kind of light it reacts to?
Can has?????????????
Thanks! :3

I can already imagine someone making a disco ball out of this.
One question though, why have colored sand? It would be much easier to just dye the glass instead.
Oh, an idea!
Why didn't I think of this before, a light sensor as a redstone device! You could even craft sensors that only pick up certain light colors!
Gotta add this to my mod
Hehe, well you wont have to worry about that; I am of the feminine verity.
Anywhoo thanks for the comment! :3
