Great idea! Although I do have some reservations about game performance issues. Mostly because I can't run Minecraft without the settings turned all the way down and the view distance set to tiny
Sounds like a great idea though if they can pull it off. I've got so many ideas that this could help immplement. (Diffrent torch colors anyone?)
Hope someone up there notices it, and I give it all my support.

I have received a lot of comments about glass blocks and changing light color causing too much lag or requiring an entire overhaul of the light engine MC currently has implemented. What people don’t fully understand is how MC lights work and where in-game lag actually comes from in videogames. I can't say I completely understand how exactly the MC lighting engine works as I have not seen the code, however it is briefly explained here: http://www.minecraft....net/wiki/Light if you have any better knowledge or sources that explains these points
Uhh... I have seen the code behind lighting and the colours are implemented using a picture in the .jar file that contains a grid of the various colours. one axis is torch light and the other axis is moonlight. there is no algorithm to create an code-generated colour overlay, at least not for lighting (there is one for particles and probably redstone wire).
Also, a MAJOR part of the lag created in MC IS from the lighting. My computer was almost crippled just from the 1.8 update (thanks to optifine, its still playable) and if ACTUAL coloured light was implemented, i doubt even optifine would keep the fps up enough to play. Yes, my computer isnt that good but the fact is, there are a lot of people who play MC on computers like mine.
Despite all that, i would like it to be implemented IF it were not to affect the fps. the coloured glass would likely be a mod item then vanilla though, knowing how Mojang is.

I'd love to have it.
But if we don't get it don't mind. It's just an extra thing that could make building a diamond house so much better

This is one of the best idea EVER
+1 to you

Also, you finally changed the title from "origional" to "original"
Are you referring to this "picture"?
