Like a few other people have said, I am pretty sure that they lighting system would have to be remade again, I remember seeing Eloraam saying something about how the new lighting system made it impossible to make the colored lights in redpower emit the right color of light.
Although if they redid the lighting system they would also have a chance to fix some of those lighting bugs along with allowing for colored lights
The new lighting system already has RGB color implemented . Thats what the big change that made the light look more realistic was. It is explained briefly here: http://www.minecraft....net/wiki/Light
People are just not reading previous posts, aren't they? I've seen the same argument three times from different people. Plain and simple, everything in Minecraft will make it lag. Textures, mobs, mods, lights, etc. It still runs, though. Doesn't it?
I wanted this too, but just as using the dyes on glass, the sand method may take too long (to code), but in a sense, if Mojang can be bothered, we'd kinda have more blocks to play with that can fall.
Either way I'd really like to have colored glass. (And signs)
Nice idea, and I think Etho would love this, as he said in his last episode that he wanted some blue light in his cave.
The part with combining blue and red glass might seem a bit difficult, and problaply the biggest lag part. But, light in MC have never been very much laggy (except light issues, witch is more concidered as a bug). The blue glass would look very cool in caves.
I very much hope this will be implemented in the game, and hopefully we might get a mod at first.

Well yes, All video games incur some lag every time the game updated a new frame, since once an input from the player is received, the game must compute the next frame of video and that video frame must be scanned out to a display device.this lag is Graphical Lag. However this lag is usually not noticeable. Noticeable graphical lag that one would find in Minecraft as it is so called is a reduction in framerate; sometimes dropping to under 1 frame per second.
This is caused when the graphics card and processor have to calculate more algorithms than it can handle in between each frame. you are correct that everything added in code adds to the data that your computer has to sort through before sending an output to your screen, but some things require more 'sorting' than others. A color change requires significantly less processing power than displaying a dynamic light or displaying more than one mob (movable object block) on screen.
What it comes down to with graphical lag is your computer and not the game. if your processor and graphics card are outdated or mot powerful enough to run the demands of a game like MC, the game will lag. However it is the developer's job to make sure that they balance the content added to the game to the ratio of consumers who will have the hardware powerful enough to run it.
This is difficult for developers like Mojang because a large chunk of the people who play MC are young and are going to be using a family computer which most likely lack the proper hardware specs to play video games. This is why Mojang has incorporated video settings where you can toggle fog to different distances and the like.
The part with combining blue and red glass might seem a bit difficult, and probably the biggest lag part.
Using algorithems to 'blend' colors when they overlap would be slightly more labor intensive on the processor than just displaying "white light". However like I said before, the current lighting engine seems to do this already. For example, when you place a torch outside at night you can see the yellowish light or the torch blend into the bluish light of the moon caste at night. Blending these two lights creates a slight purple hue around the edges of the torch light.
can you post a thing for your signature? i would very much like to spread it around
also it'd be cool if it cycled through the different colors in the signature (a .gif)

That's a neat idea do you know how to make .gifs? Because i can assemble something together like that now. The only issue is it won't preserve transparency :/
Oh yea you could! The posobilities are endless!!!
Redstoners would go crazy over this because they could even make color display LCD tvS O_o
...OR LIGHT BRIGHTS :3

the .gif thing isnt required, and im not sure how to do it either...
but i'd still love to spread your idea

I can see lag from this if you put 9001 colored blocks next to each other and shine light through them while they are being moved around with pistons...
But it's worth it to take the chance. This looks really cool!

Why no transparency? Not supported with your editing tool?
I could easily put a .gif with transparency together in Photoshop if you gave me the frames.
Unlike a lot of suggestions, I like this one. ME GUSTA.
I like the idea of the colored light, but I'm afraid this will make my computer melt into mush.
But, I still like it.

Mostly moved on. May check back a few times a year.
