I definitely support this. I am working on my first(!) custom map, where you start in a facility with only the emergency lights on. But they're not much of emergency lights if they're not red, y'know? The ambiance really is suffering from it =(
If this topic is about implementing these into Xbox 360, then I don't know when; but 4JStudios anounced a huge update that will add stuff from the PC versions 1.4 through 1.6.4. I didn't read all of this thread- to many pages.
I didn't read the entire thread because of how huge it is, but if it is for xbox; then there will be an update at some point that adds things from PC versions 1.4 through 1.6.4 - so stained glass might be in it.

yeah...reading entire threads...nope...
Even if we did, how well would we remember every tiny little detail?
Honestly, in my opinion, the other versions of mc are inferior.
I've witnessed pocket edition first hand, mc's control scheme just doesn't translate well to mobile devices...
As for console editions, like XBOX, well, I don't particularly care about the home consoles, as I prefer PC (especially since they can easily be made to emulate other systems, thanks to the huge fan/emulation communities).
In general, I feel that anything NOT on PC is quite limited, or suffers in some way because of minor differences in how the other [non-pc] platforms operate.
Anyways, for those who play XBOX, yeah, i guess they'll have their little update at some point, that adds whatever PC edition, or even PE already has, but, honestly, I don't really care. Another way this could go, also... the XBOX version could potentially see colored light before PC edition. Same could be said that PE gets it first.
Also, how did this thread become XBOX-related?
I honestly don't read every new comment...tedious...and I'm preoccupied with some projects
when I saw someone with this in their signature, I thought it was ridiculous, (since stained glass had been added already.) but I have wanted the light thing for a long time. Support!

That idea is ama-ZING. Glow in the dark glass. So cool! Love the first picture. So pretty
I came to someone's banner that had this. I was ready to type there is stained glass but it LIGHTS UP?! WOW
We can read "We did it" in the 1st post. Well, I planned to post a suggestion to implement colored light and I saw that post...
But there is no 'colored light' in the newest version, although stained glass is existent. I would be happy about Minecraft 1.9 to be "The Light Update" or something like that. I want to let stained glass affect the light's color, just as seen in the screenshots. So, will this feature ever be implemented?
Greetings from Austria :]
This thread was three concepts from the start.
1.) colored glass... we wanted it, and finally got it.
2.) colored light... we still want it, and currently have to rely on mod authors to slowly produce on that one
3.) colored light filtering through colored glass... requires both 1 and 2.
Once we heard that colored glass was finally coming out, we were incredibly excited, and Galactic had changed the OP to celebrate. We did do it (referring to part 1)... but not all of it.
I just realized...stained glass does a similar thing to beacon beams in 1.8, complete with color blending. Obviously it's more like a proof-of-concept, but live color blending plus directional lighting* already possible in the game make colored light that much more plausible. I should also mention that the light map already does this in a small way--the combination of sunlight and block light. Of course, the current lightmap doesn't take the average color, so that will have to be changed.
*Directional lighting was added in the 1.5 snapshots and subsequently removed because of lag.
I am literally crying right now from all the effort put into this! SUPPORT. This fills so many open ends to the game and would make aesthetic features endless. There already is a formula in the game for calculating beams from beacons as of 1.8 and it could be easily modified to have light implemented. This also adds finally a use to cauldrons! they are no longer just a pointless basin that no-one ever uses due to unlimited water sources.

The beacon changes... really don't have much to do with the actual lighting engine though. It's quite an endeavor to go from a lighting system built for white light, and rewrite it to support color.
The best implementation I've seen thusfar requires a vertex and fragment shader to draw the extra layer of color over everything in the rendering pipeline. This is a decent change in rendering complexity though, and some low end PC's will lose their ability to play Minecraft. It's understandable why Mojang hasn't jumped to include this feature yet.

Oh. I didn't expect to see the mod there, because I read that "colored light is 'impossible'."
I just posted the mod after I read that sentence
How do I delete this post?
