I think that it's extremely interesting and would open up a lot of new buildings. Especially with the creation of churches in NPC villages, the spawning of colored glass would make it look original. Also would natural or torch lighting change? What about lava light and would we be able to make different colored lava lamps?
I especially love the idea of it being used for church windows. Perhaps (even though I don't know it will happen, but it's just a bit of imagination) they take several designs (for example, a dragon made out of red glass, surrounded by green glass) that are picked at random when the church is generated. Of course, churches would have to be generated larger (which I'm all for).
BTW everyone, kinda off topic but check out my new prison server topic! I am working on a large PVP prison-based server that will be set in either a medieval dungeon setting or the Deadman Wonderland universe. I am also looking for staff so check it out and vote on which prison I should do! It will really help me out!
I've been wanting something like this ever since i started playing Minecraft! I'd love to add some stained glass windows to my cathedral! I'd love to place a Red Glass block on a pole with a Yellow and a Green to look like traffic lights for my city! Even if they couldn't add in the colored light part, I'd still adore this one for the looks alone! It would also give me something else to do with all of the dye clogging up my chests! With the lighting effects I could take my city to the next level with neon signs and billboards! Erg, now I wish i could mod my 360 version! lol
Great idea! But, shouldn't the light from a light source emit light in different directions? like, if there's red glass above glowstone, and blue next to it, it emits red light upwards/to the sides to a 45* angle where it meets the blue light from the blue glass. eh?
And also,
we can assume
Please don't assume, it causes horrible conflicts. instead, let's presume that, as presumption would require evidence to support an idea or presumption about how something is or would work, and assumption requires nothing.

Who are you quoting exactly?
Also yes, it would make sense to make the colored light act as we are used to it acting; via the natural world. However for minecraft, things must be simplified so that the concept is more intuitive for players and simpler to implement.
This is a really cool suggestion that i found since somebody had your signature. The fact that mojang has seen this and you had a conversation with dinnerbone is really cool. Im going to watch this topic and see what happens in the future
