Amazing suggestion! I would like to see it put into the game for sure. There would be so many more possibilities for buildings, and even adventure maps. The idea is very creative as well, and you provided some great pictures. I support your idea.
Yes that was the idea we all had at the time but Dinnerbone tweeted later expressing his objectiveness of colored glass. So once again we are unsure of the suggestion's future in Minecraft.
Oh wow. Can that man just make up his mind and stop toying with about a third of the minecraft community's feelings like this???
We get it, you adore horses dinnerbone and Jeb, we got the hint! I mean serioulsy, horses are great and everything but it feels like they are overdoing that one aspect when almost everything else hangs loosely tilted on the side. Horse are one of the most suggested ideas, but it is also the single most bashed and neutral one, as most of us had stopped thinking about it and were moving on with our lives, whilst this thread is the single most supported thread, that takes no negativism at all and changes such a fundamental aspect of the game for the better!
Hmm.... From what I've seen throughout my modding adventure (and by "modding," I mean applying them to my client and a server,) Forge might prove of some help to you... Why not try to get a hold of the Forge team and see if anything comes of it? A complete rewrite of the current lighting system will definitely be necessary to implement colored lamps and glass that actually affect the light shining from/through them, but someone might as well get the ball rolling, as I doubt it will see the light of Minecraft's square sun if we leave it up to Notch, Jeb, and Dinnerbone...
Just wanted to add my +1 to this topic... Don't really care about the coloured light bit, but stained glass would give us another thing to use dyes for (and this method is actually a well thought out "realistic" way to do it)
Well, horses were in the april fool's update, and lookit that. They're in the game. Mojang's shown that they are capable of making semitransparent blocks, mebbe they're just getting the lighting worked out before they release it for real.
I like this idea overall and I think it would go a long way to improving the ambiance of MC. +1 Support.
Side note - I feel like if Mojang is going to re-write lighting to support this, they might as well include dynamic lightning. That's also something that was considered impossible to do, yet there's mods that support it

Since Forge changes how MC deals with stuff like that, it wouldn't really prove that colored lighting is possible without mods.

Did they change the signature limit, or is it just me?
I'm going to have some fun with this!
Forge managed to get it to work in minecraft, so it's definitely possible. The main issue would probably be with mods that work with minecraft's existing lighting system, although that's a small price to pay for a more solid, flexible lighting system for the future.

It was less that Dinnerbone didn't like it and more that he had issues with the rendering; where the partial transparency would do the same as ice and not render water or other glass behind it. https://twitter.com/...232592545767424
@KlausarGaming @ChilledStalker Coloured glass alone is "possible", aside from that you can only see one transparent block at a time.
If someone were to properly spit out some code technique that would work around that, then it would probably go very well in their favor.
Will you please stop posting this mod here? Not only did we hear you the first time, but it's completely different: instead of adding colored glass that allows for colored lights, it just has colored lights.

Is this mod still active? If so, I would very much like to include it in my suggestion topic here under the mods section: http://www.minecraft...s-the-original/
Great work btw! <3
If this were implemented, the colored lighting could be a graphics option that switched between the old engine and the new one for the slower computers.
Seems like the whole april fools joke wasn't a too big joke either. Both horses AND animal feeding change AND coal block has been added, so it's just a matter of time till colored glass gets added too.
So most likely a lot of the things we saw in the April Fools joke was real.

will this do?

But it could be promising (assuming Mojang doesn't somehow ruin it with their new lighting engine.)
Edit: And still no response to this:
Mostly moved on. May check back a few times a year.
XD believe it or not, I used to be the laughing stock on forums for my poor grammar and spelling. I guess I've improved.
Thank you for your support! :3
