Make Iron ladders from iron bars! The iron ladders would allow faster movement speed up and down than the current speed of wood ladders. Using the same recipe as before just iron bars in place of sticks.
Im not sure how iron ladderrs would let you move faster up and down.
but i have another idea.
They could create some thype of vertical rail that pistons could inchworm there selfs up or if you add redstone and gold to them storage minecarts can travle up them. (but not you because your to heavy)

So Steve is heavier than a huge iron box laden with a storage container stuffed with all sorts of cumbersome items? I don't think so. Plus minecarts traveling vertically in general just gives Issac Newton the middle finger.
On topic: Even though you can travel slightly faster on them, iron ladders would be redundant considering we already have two other methods of vertical transport.
With all of it's new uses, iron is more precious now and using it for slightly increased movement speed isn't practical, considering wood can be easily farmed and there are so many other ways to use iron.

If you think iron is precious you must have terrible luck with caves. Iron is so easy to find.
Iron ladder might be useful if it could be placed like fences and not need another solid block to support it.
I always find good caves. What I meant by precious is important and very useful and could be better used for things besides ladders.

I guess it would be a bit more interesting if it didn't need to be on the side of a block, but needs a ground piece for a base. It could also have a higher blast resistance and make at least four ladder pieces from the seven iron ingots in crafting. As opposed to a regular stick ladder making three pieces...

I say Iron Ladders should just be allowed to be "locked" with a Redstone charge.
This would give adventure map makers a bunch of opportunities for new types of challenges. I also like decorative stuff, and have a bunch of iron in my survival world, so I definitely support this.

I like the sound of iron ladders, but I'm not seeing any suggested uses for them that make sense to me.
Good thinking, though. Just flesh out your idea a bit more.
