(note that this is going to be a part of a mega-thread about siege engines later on)
Ok, I'm not really sure how to "introduce" this, so let's cut straight to the chase.
1. Placing items in minecarts:
First off, since this suggestion would add different types of minecarts, we don't want to be eating up any more item IDs than neccesary. Do we?
My idea is that instead of crafting the different minecart types, you would place the item in the minecart instead. (e.g. instead of crafting a storage minecart, right-click a placed minecart with a chest). With me so far? (if yes, good. if no, re-read.) Furthermore, the item would face you when you place it (like chests and such face you when you place them). Of course, don't put a furnace in a minecart sideways... duh.
Now that we've got the basics, let's move on to the different types of carts.
2. Dispenser minecarts:
Even though it's self-explanatory, I'll explain it anyways. Placing a dispenser in a minecart would result in a "dispenser minecart". The dispenser would fire when the minecart passes over a detector rail or when there is a redstone repeater pointing at the track. (the dispenser rules in this suggestion [link] that does not yet exist would still apply). Note: the dispenser texture should be made upside-down when placed in a minecart so that the hole is not covered up by the cart...
3. TNT minecarts:
Yep, you heard me. TNT minecarts! The TNT would be triggered when either a redstone current is detected nearby or when it hits something forcibly.
Just pretend it's not moving. I could probably re-take this...
4. Track placers + track placing minecarts:
The first thing is a "track placer" block...
When it is placed "normally", it will place a track when receiving a pulse from redstone - but only when it is possible. (it has an inventory like a dispenser that you put tracks in, of course it doesn't give you infinite tracks dummy)
HOWEVER...
When placed in a minecart it will place a rail in the direction it is facing whenever it can and has tracks in its inventory.
5. Minecart "links"
Minecart links:
would allow you to connect minecarts, thereby making minecart trains! (yes, that means you can finally put the furnace minecart in the front, timmy.) Also, having multiple furnace minecarts in a train would increase the power of all the carts.
6. Pusher minecarts:
By placing an iron block in a minecart, you could make a "pusher" minecart, which would push mobs off the track, useful for getting those nosy zombies out of your dark themed roller coaster.
7. Chunks around moving minecarts stay loaded:
Often times I have to send single minecarts in between my bases, which are a good distance away from eachother. The problem is, as soon as the minecart gets to an unloaded chunk, it stops moving.
I think that the chunk that the minecart is should be loaded as long as the minecart is moving.
8. Uses/credits
Uses you ask?
Well, dispenser minecarts could be used as mobile turrets, as moving traps for adventure maps, defense mechanisms for clearing out the monsters sitting on your track, etc.
TNT minecarts could be used for blast mining, PvP siege warfare, etc - especially when combined with a track-placer and furnace minecart.
Rail placers, obviously, could be used together with furnace minecarts to forge paths for your other minecarts without you having to supervise the whole thing. When combined with TNT minecarts, it makes an excellent tool for siege warfare. If placed sideways, it can run along an existing track and place another track next to it.
Minecart chains could actually put furnace minecarts to use, by having more of them.
And placing things in minecarts directly would free item ids.

Nice ideas, but I think the Minecart Placer would be a little specific, why not just a block dispenser like in Better Then Wolves mod, except minus that soul jar thing. As for the Minecart Links, how could dust hold together two large metal objects? I suggest making it look like a tube with iron and redstone. Other then that, nice job.
P.S, trust me, a lot of good suggestions get left in the dust around here. I've had quite a few that got swept away in the waves of other ideas. If nobody posts, try getting some attention to it. (Without spamming, I might add!)

For the rail placer, I was also thinking they would be able to place any block, but that seemed like a seperate idea...
For the minecart links, I was thinking that the iron would hold it together while the dust would be like an electrical current.
For suggestions, yeah. I've seen many good suggestions that get covered up with "I want guns!" or "More golems!"
This is actually a really good idea. I can see a lot of fun sieges happening in PVP.
If possible you should make a mod and plug-in for this.
If I might make another suggestion, how about a controllable turret? It would act as a dispenser-minecart except you have to be in the cart behind it and you can aim it in an 180 degree angle. This would have several advantages and disadvantages over the regular turret-Minecart such as being able to shoot specific things but would take away stealth and leave you open to attacks from enemy players.
No, there has never, ever been a sandbox game with a story or ending... except Grand Theft Auto... and Saints Row... and Red Dead Redemption... and Crack Down... and Assassins Creed...
I would espeshaly love this idea if you could make a mine card that has a drill bit on the first car, power sorce on the second, and a rail placer in the back.
That way it will push forward drilling a 3x2 tunnel around it and leave a rail track behind .... could do so as long as it has enugh track pices and fuel

I think that might make the TNTcart redundant, what I personally think the Miningcart should do is make a 2 block high and 1 block wide tunnel, and if you attach a chestcart to the train then anything it mines will be put in there.

wow! this is a legit good idea! 100% support!
i try and help it from getting swept under the carpet! i suggest adding more detail and brushing up the crafting recipes people will like that!
this is one of those few ideas that are actually good ideas but no one will pay attention to because they are to busy being interested in stupid ideas that will never be added. like new pointless dimensions or even pointless mobs. im telling you if you don't back down and keep updating your thread. this will be added! or some of it

It could have more comments. Anyways I think I might be able to make some concept pics soon to spice up the OP a bit.
