I personally find mining in minecraft survival mode to be the worst part of the game. I don't enjoy how monotonous it is to spend 45 minutes looking for diamonds.
However, I don't like cheating/modding as well.
I think mining could be made alot more interesting and challenging. What if the player was limited on how much stone/dirt/etc they could hold? and you could fill minecarts with stone so that minecarts would actually serve a real function besides transport.
And I don't like that there is no (easy) way to farm gunpowder. Maybe the player could harvest a few rare plants (like, one rare one from desert biomes, a rare one from jungle, and a rare one from swamp biomes), and harvest them for the ingredients to make gunpowder. That would allow gunpowder farming, and by extension unlimited (but not dangerous or time consuming to acquire) TNT could be achieved. making TNT mining a real possiblility in survival mode instead of being rather impractical.
I mean, this game afterall is called minecraft, and yet mining has probably been the least changed/expanded feature in the game
you already can make mine-carts with chests to hold your ores and there is also a furnace powered mine-cart that will push other carts. Look up a tutorial to make them. I think mining is fun though. I enjoy going through mines knowing that i will never see the same thing again. Also you do have a limit to how many thing you can carry, but i understand what you mean by you want a lower limit. I don't think notch would ever limit the amount of things you are able to hold because most people go mining and don't leave until they have a full inventory (at least I do). Also, you think not much has been changed to caves and mining? That is not true in anyway at all. If you have played since Beta 1.2, like I have, there is a very distinct difference between then and now. Though about the gun powder thing, that will never happen because the whole point that makes TNT awesome is that it's not easily acquired. No offense, but you complained about how resource mining is too easy and then you complained about how resource mining was to challenging. Just saying, it's usually not a good idea to contradict yourself in one post.

Good ideas? Let me know what you think
I think Minecraft is just adventurous. TNT is a pain to get though.
In my opinion, building is the most fun.

I'm not contradicting myself.. I'm arguing about two separate aspects of the game that I feel should be balanced in different ways.
Also I find Minecarts to be more of a hassle than something to enjoy. It's actually going to save me more time overall if I just climb a ladder when I need to unload my ore than to dig and lay expensive track down a whole 70 blocks just to save myself a minute or two to do it on foot. They are good for travelling long distances, yes, but that's about it.
And what about mining has changed? You can get better picks? That's all.
The reason I want mining changed is so there's an actual difficulty and system to manage in taking ore from lower levels to upper levels. It just seems.. too easy
As for the gunpowder thing, Farming a mob that blows up in your face without a chance to fight on laggy servers isn't really viable.

Right. And this wouldn't change the adventure part of the game at all. Instead it would force the player to actually make a real mine. Either the player could explore the world for abandoned mines, caves, villages and loot them for resources, or they could go to hard work digging the resources themselves and design a minecart system which is needed to store those resources (or they could store them underground)...
