EDIT 1: Added Hurricanes and dust storms
EDIT 2: Added Tornados
So, I was wanting a new dynamic for the weather instead of just random global rain with no warning.
This would create clouds with darker hues that create rain/snow under them and darken the area beneath them, but not above. They would lazily move across the sky like normal clouds.
There are several types of storm I would like to see.
I will give their actual names and then an easier name.
Nimbostratus - Normal Rain
The normal rain is much like it is now: very widespread moderate rain, very little lightning.
Fog
Very low clouds that start at midnight and stick around till midmorning. It greatly reduces visibility to a few blocks and make it very easy for mobs to sneak up on you. It does not happen every night but only about 30% of the nights.
Squall
Just a very small storm that water the ground and produces lightning, can be easily dodged because of its size.
Cumulonimbus - Thunderstorm
Just heavy rain with some lightning and low enough light levels to spawn some hostile mobs.
SuperCell Thunderstorm- Superstorm
The Superstorms are huge towering clouds that create lots of lightning. They drop the light level way below 7.
They also have "Hail" Essentially just snowballs shot from the sky that do no damage (but move you), so stay away from edges.
Sandstorm
The air is tinged to color of the desert sand. The wind slowly moves steve.
Hurricane
You know it! It is a huge storm only occurring in ocean biomes. Lots of lightning and hail, very hard to move your boat (don't even try to swim).
Tornado
Pretty obvious what it is. To avoid it being a griefing tool, it would only "weak" blocks such as signs, doors, leaves, glass, trapdoors, torches, etc.
. It would also change grass blocks to dirt and strip the ground of tall grass and flowers.
If you walked close to a tornado, it would pick you up into the funnel, and throw you in a random direction, dealing appropriate fall damage.
I agree that more diverse weather patterns and storms are due. Clouds changing color/shape to indicate a storm is a good idea that should be fairly easy to implement (at least the color part).
Hurricanes in ocean biomes might be the coolest thing I've heard all day. That'd be really neat.
I think fog is just the same as sand storms, both are decreasing your sight. Only one is with sand and the other one is with water.
And I don't like the idea of huricanens and tornadoes, just beacause: When you have build something really amazing, some storm passes and everything is screwed.
This may be a good idea for a mod, but not for the real game.
Thanks for the feedback. I would only want the Hurricanes to be in the ocean biome. And the tornados would not destroy blocks (except grass, glass, and leaves)
yes, you should also be able to start a natural disaster in creative.-there should be earthquakes that rips apart the earth(could split your home in half) and volcanos that erupt only after earthquakes and shoot out fire balls-similar to ghast's attack-when it erupts the top explodes and lava covers the entire volcano-lava will eventually disappear.
Try this idea(has nothing to do with your idea)-http://www.minecraft...s-of-villagers/

I love your idea of placing certain storms in certain biomes. What if you had a clickbox or slider to change your preferences? Like you could click once and set to default weather(current) click again to change to different clouds, click one more time for clouds and stormsYa know how there is a small particle effect of dust falling when you break a stone block? What if when a tornado breaks a glass block or glass pane, the normal particle effect is changed to pieces of the glass flying around?

Are youbored of minecraft? It's not the new features. I'll give you a hint:It's the terrain generation. Go play a map generated in 1.7.3 or earlier, then tell me you don't agree.
EPIC. This has been on my minecraft wishlist for months. I know someone who could suggest this stuff to on twitter, so hopefully this will be noticed by mojang. Here have some diamonds. and some

To all of you people who think Notch is still working on the game, he stopped working on Minecraft in late 2011. Get your facts straight and stop spamming his twitter about Minecraft updates.
Ever since the lighting in Minecraft was changed to much brighter, I've always wanted the option to go back to lighting that really made you question whether or not you'd leave shelter at night. This new weather system is not only innovative but also seems to be a perfect reason for lower lighting levels, therefore, bringing more fear to the game opposed to aimlessly wandering around knowing if a hostile mob is approaching.

Good idea, adding that.
Thanks

Hurricanes in ocean biomes might be the coolest thing I've heard all day. That'd be really neat.
What can I say, this is what happens when you have a guy who is minoring in meteorology.
Oh yes! So the thunderstorms are very tall, like real ones.

Try this idea(has nothing to do with your idea)-http://www.minecraft...s-of-villagers/
1. light rain..basicaly a misting it doesnt darken the area and has less rain particals an sound.. maybe fog after/during
2. rain storm.. same as they have now and maybe fog
3. heavy rain.. it darkes it to the point of night and more rain particals and heavier sounds and wind sounds..
4 and thunder stom versions for each..the heavier the more lightning and thunder rolling sounds...
5 same and rain for snow as far as the levles of intensity..
6. wind storms with sand blowing animation for deserts..
7. stroms at sea/ocean bioms can have higher intensity even causeing boats to break.
8. sunny days.. no or few clouds ALL mobs seek shelter/shade
9. normal days...
10 mostly couldy.. more clouds making shade spots larger.
11. heavy clouds..makes every area shaded...
1. Earthquakes - Rips land open and lava inside
2. Volcano - Spawns randomly in the world and has lava inside, randomly explodes and makes lava fly everywhere
3. Tsunami - Happens when there is a earthquake under the sea, The giant wave destroys some of the coastline

or -1 me with your mind. One of them is less frustrating.
