Have you ever gone mining and had to throw out something in order to have a different thing? I run into this problem ALL the time.
I think we either need a pack mule or a backpack to have extra space to hold stuff. Some people will whine "BUT ITS OP". Well, I can only think of a downside for the pack mule: it should have low HP, so you have to protect it from other mobs if you want to keep your stuff from spewing everywhere.
I can't think of a downside to the backpack, so can you try for yourself.
Um... Chests? Though I do support the idea of a Backpack. And if Pack-Mules are to be implemented, then they need a wild Mule or to finally add a Horse mob.

Excuse me, but that was my comment you just read there, bub.
Yeah, agreed. The pack mule sounds fair, as does the backpack. Another post said that the backpack slows you down the more it carries (same space as inventory), which I think would make a great addition to Minecraft that people have been wanting for a long time.
just use a chest, it wont hurt to go back home and drop off a little things before you go out and explore again, we dont really need more inventory space BUT, it is still a good idea to have some lol, like a backpack.

Yes, usually cobblestone.

Inventory management is a crucial part of the game and should not be abridged. Learn to better define what you need versus what you don't; take a bit of time and clear the detritus out of your inventory periodically by shoving your valuables into waypoint chests. CHESTS are your "something for extra inventory space". Create convenient warehouses for chests.

Yo dawg, I herd yo like inventory space, so I put yo backpack in yo backpack in yo backpack so yo can have mo space while yo have mo space while yo have mo space.

Which makes me want to have it more than a high-durability/non-targeted chest why?

I've just labeled a huge flaw, it completely destroys the inventory management aspect of the game in addition to creating a complicated and cluttered ui requiring nested redundant code which slows down processing speed.
Crafted like a chest but with leather
Oh and more its filled it slows you down ;D
Skyrim much?

Maybe for a mod.
Im not agree for it in vanilla.
As I see iventory is huge enought to be even called a backpack.
Although it has potential.
