NPC villages are a little boring, am I right? The villagers are a little weird and do nothing except run away from zombies (Not insulting Notches work because i have nothing on him)
So why not add NPC cities or suberbs filled with the removed human mob(later renamed monster) except the humans have functions, like doing jobs and stuff. Of course cities would have to be very rare because it would have to be rather large. Also some jobs would include miner, technician(works with redstone), a hotel lobby person(idk what they are called but if you give them money they unlock a room that u can stay in), a factory worker(makes items),a cab driver, and salesmen(with various stores and you pay them money for everything)
Items/blocks/features that would make this better/possible
Cars(would be very hard to make and probably wouldnt be included)
Money(not craftable, you have to work for a human to get it)
Speech/communication(a way to communicate with the npc's would make it easier to do a job for them or buy something)
A display case(for stores so you can see whats for sale)
I think the cities should be similar to what we have now, except bigger and with a few new buildings.

No, there has never, ever been a sandbox game with a story or ending... except Grand Theft Auto... and Saints Row... and Red Dead Redemption... and Crack Down... and Assassins Creed...

I don't think cars would be a good idea,as you can see this game haven't got any technology items (example:phone).
Second,jobs looking good,but I don't really like having a boss or being one...also I think the work you do is crafting and as you can see the rewards are what you craft.Commuication looks good!If someone make this mod,hope he/she will make a communication with pets,too.Fourth,buildings like hotel would be awesome.I would like to add some ideas...villagers look like human and do human actions 9example:shopping).That's it!
I agree that the NPCs should be more interesting, but I do not wholly support the city idea. Generated structures are never... great looking. Take a look at the villages, which have been around for the past few updates, the gravel roads fall through, you cannot access some doors, and surrounding landscape is damaged because of them. Making a larger village would most likely look terrible, unless jeb and notch do some serious generation overhauling. I would like a way to interact with the NPCs, however. I dont care if it is a RPG style interaction with pre-made conversations, but being able to get the farmer to trade 64 wheat for a diamond hoe or something valuable would be very nifty. As it has been stated on these forums, however, minecraft is not a RPG. A little purpose to the villagers/NPCs would make it much more interesting.
I like the idea of larger cities, though not ultra-modern metropolis-es. They should have some element of fantasy in them! Instead of cars have a network of minecart tracks or something.

Minecraft is set around medieval times with magic and stuff
things like cars and big-ass mines and redstonefactories doesn't fit in
also, why would i want to work for somebody when i can roam free trough the woods and make my own castle
minecraft is about adventure and building stuff
It would also be a pain in the **** to actually code this
and if you want a city, there are plenty of servers wich have communities like that, with real people
