The Mod Project is cancelled. To my team, I am sorry for not informing you. To the rest, I am sorry for not continuing it. My team here has full rights to this idea and to make it a mod in their name (but with me as founder, of course).
So I've been thinking how generic our biomes are. If you say "forest", it'd be just all around trees, animals and grass. In real life and in movies there are forests that have dark and dangerous animals, while others are perfectly serene. Same with every biome.
Now for months my thought was "Let's add more biomes!" and after thinking about it today, that plan was flawed and limited. What I now propose is a more flexible idea and still giving the variety of biomes, even more. I'm suggesting we add Biome "Levels". The game randomly chooses from four levels to apply for each biome. With this you could have a killer jungle hellhole to a classic winter wonderland. We have 10 biomes so if we multiply that with 4 we get: 40 different environments. With four levels, we can expand the biomes, and in a way a large piece of player experience.
What do I know of coding this?
Absolutely none, but I've been guessing through most of my life and getting things right so lemme try.
Each level could have several mobs, environmental and visual effects, generation changes and blocks. Those could be used into the biome depends on the level, so it could be in some folder or something. Yes, I know this guess is a very lame attempt to guess at coding. Oh well.
So we have four levels. These are Habitable, Untamed, Wild and Dangerous. Habitable is the most peaceful and probably good for building, Dangerous is the top spot for thirll seekers and for treasure hunters. Untamed is the normal world's generation while Wild is slightly more danger level but still slightly normal.
Hoping for support!
We are creating a list of supporters, so we need you to say /support to make it easier for us.
This is pretty awesome. I would support it wholeheartedly with one caveat. The player's initial spawn location should never be above Untamed. Also, an interesting variation might be if biome levels were made so that they would be adjusted by difficulty settings.
Peaceful: All biomes are Habitable. (Alternately, reduced by 2 "danger levels".)
Easy: The danger level of biomes is reduced by one.
Normal: No change. That's why it's "Normal".
Hard: Danger levels are increased by one.
Hardcore Mode: Danger levels are increased by two. Any areas that would normally be Dangerous (before adjusted levels) become "shrouded"...meaning that the light level is lower inside these areas, allowing hostile mobs to spawn in daytime.
If anyone has had the same thoughts as me, I apologise. Just trying to get down my thoughts after reading the initial post.
I like this idea but I think you are trying to implement too many things at once. I think you should try to concentrate your idea on the biome levels rather than new types of weather, mobs, and plants.

The ideas are just personal thoughts. There, I posted a warning message before the ideas. Thanks for liking the idea!
i think this is a great idea but i think instead of so many different layers there should be more bioms like the flower biom witch is going around or a pyro biom with rivers of lava and fire sheep that attacks you when you sheer its wool of or something. ?
This should add more diversity to biomes. Will be great if different types of NPC Villagers/structure spawn in the level of biome; like Sandstone buildings in a desert town. I think we also need more 'valley' type biomes, the natural terrain generation can get a bit boring sometimes.
Something as epic as this:
It would be awesome as it would have mix features of snowy mountains, plains and rivers! I'm probably too optimistic, but you never know
Now there's an idea! I think I'll add a link to this on my thread about ideas for terrain generation, for further reading. This idea deserves more notice! http://www.minecraft...om-other-posts/
Thank you! I've seen your thread, and it's a great work that should be stickied, or should be the first sticky in a sub-forum exclusively for biomes. We have too much biome ideas right now, and for good cause.

I'm not suggesting new biomes, and choosing to add more biomes is your preference, but for me levelling what biomes we have already.

That valley is awesome, and I fully agree with you. Hey, maybe we should work together on making some sort of valley scene in a map, and post it as a suggestion? What do you think? PM me for further discussion.
Even if I have no knowledge of code, it isn't that complicated. So Mojang adds some new features, and restricts them more and more with each growing level.
Instead of changing the current biomes we should all put our brains together and try to think of a new biome
It's not changing them, it's varying them. A new biome? So what, so people can get bored again? With this it'd take a lot more time for a player to fully see them all and it gives some sort of survival aspect to the game. Right now you can run through most places in the game, but with this on, some parts you'd be desperate to traverse. It makes the world more varied.

This is awesome and insanely well thought out. I 100% support this. I completely agree that animals should adapt to the biome they are in, so animals in mountain biomes might be better at climbing, or animals in deserts could be faster(I'm just brain storming). I think you should make a petition for this. The last time someone did that with the ugly swamps, Mojang actually found out about it and did what they wanted- the fixed the swamps. I love this idea is I didn't mention that already!
This is actualy pretty damn awesome. This means you could things like create harmfull desserts to travel through in adventure maps, or you might have to go around a dangerous area to get from A to B. And I defenantly don't see why this couldn't be added to the game.

Yeah I agree the player should spawn on a Habitable or Untamed biome since Wild and Dangerous ones will probably rip him apart, regardless of the wonderful goodies.
Anything higher than Untamed shouldn't spawn within a 5 x 5 chunk area centred on spawn and the spawn biome must be Habitable.
I have addressed this with Anon already. Why shouldn't anything higher than Untamed not spawn within 5x5 of the spawn chunk? It'd be a wonderful way to diversify our world. It'd make normally lame stuff into strategic areas. Going through a monster infested forest? No, but there's a river nearby. In a way it's really shaping up to be survival.

or -1 me with your mind. One of them is less frustrating.

PM'ed
Yeah, but having levels is a flexible and editable way for Mojang to edit the biomes!
AMAZING IDEA
