Hi everyone,
One of the servers that I usually play on has just had some idiot come on it and start swearing at everyone, but the thing is he didn't mind being banned. There are people out there who just find some random list of random servers where they go on and swear at random people until they're banned or get bored, then move onto the next one.
These people are (edit: probably) just destructive and don't care about anything or anyone, and they are part of the reason Minecraft multiplayer should have a Global Blacklist Collective of everyone who's been banned from a server and the reasons. As far as I understand this would not be hard at all to implement; every time someone gets banned, information about the ban is sent from the console to some central database and each new player on a whitelist-enabled server who has been banned from a different server will be checked against that database and, if anything's found, that information would be sent to the server staff. It probably wouldn't work exactly like that, but I think this is a rather good idea and deserves serious consideration.
Thanks in advance for any beneficial actions taken as a consequent of the viewing of this post.
It is an interesting but depressing reality that most politicians are just regular people with power. And most people would be as bad as politicians if only they could get some power.
Yes, but who decides which servers have authority? What if some troll server just bans everyone and ruins their reputation? I've been banned from a lot of servers for no real reason. It's something like "You typed colored text, hacker" (it's actually 100% vanilla) or "No [email protected]#$%s" or even "You griefed my house" (I built a house next to his on an unmarked grass area that supposedly was his lawn). This is a problem with MCBans, but luckily, few servers actually use it. Otherwise, I wouldn't be able to join any.
So if you're banned by those stupid servers, you can't get on any other servers. I like the idea, but there has to be some authority.
I find it very easy to thwart griefers with LogBlock. No protected zones or anything annoying, but any griefing is undone once an OP notices it. Add NoCheat to prevent cheating mods. There are also some anti-swearing plugins that can silence, ban, or mess with people who use profane language. I usually follow up with a nasty ban message.

That is a good point; I never thought of there being any bad servers before, but it doesn't have to be an automatic ban if you've been banned from another server. The server staff would look at which servers you've been banned from and the reasons, and you might try to explain to them that the server was bad...but then there would be the problem of people lying about good servers being bad, and then the server authorities might think that a single new player isn't worth looking for those servers and trying to survey them.
Maybe each ban would have more information on the server, like the percentage of people banned, so it would be easier to tell which servers were good.

If you make incompetent sweeping judgements such as the above, people might be less inclined to consider your ideas.
The suggestion isn't terrible though.
