Currently, when we start a new world, we have a choice of original and superflat. I propose a third choice that offers a world with huge biomes, 10k or more across. Sure it's fun setting up your home within view of 5 biomes (with a 6th less than 2 real minutes walk away), but imagine the challenge of building your towns in only one biome type. (If you spawn in the ocean, restart or swim!). The lucky spawn would be on the border of 2 biomes, and even more rare, 3.
Nether gates and minecart track systems would definately be required for travel.
I suggested this as a world type to allow the player to have a choice. If you don't want to play it, then you don't have to. Like superflat.
sorry but i would never want to take 20 to 30 minutes just to get to another biome... bad idea
If you had read and understood(!) the post you would have seen that this is intended as an option, not a remake. It's simple; if you don't like it, don't do it (like Superflat). That's the best part of "Freedom of Choice". It's not like any of these "suggestions" are going to be implemented anyway.
I'd like it. Maybe not 10k(!) blocks, but significantly larger. The current setup is cartoonishly small, and I want exploration to be a little heavier on the effort side to make the discoveries more rewarding.
It would also be much easier to make themed worlds, such as an expansive desert civilization, or snowy mountain expedition.
As is often the key to new features, I support making it optional. Perhaps a check-box in the worldgen options that says "Large biomes"?
I for one would love this option. In my opinion, current biomes are too small. Right now, the terrain generator makes a sort of jigsaw puzzle out of various mini biomes, I'd love to see this made more realistic.

Agreed. The only biomes that tend to be big enough are the snow biomes and oceans.
Perhaps large biome specific areas? A jungle/ocean biome area. A mountain/plains biome area. This way you get a little variety but your not getting 5 biomes right next to each other.
10,000 square blocks is just 100x100. That isn't so much.
He said 10,000 across, so I think he meant 10,000x10,000.
Anyways, I like the idea, at least as an option. Maybe being able to choose between small, medium, large, and huge biome sizes.

I'd rather see realistic world generation as a new world type because I like the randomness of the current biome generation.
For biome size I would like to see them on a massive scale.

Arrival of Darkness, Darker yet recognizable textures.
How I see this working is a "real" world option that generates plausible mountains, biomes, and caves in a way that is more like actual geology. Mountains would generate by choosing a random chunk to have its peak at, and then creating a large conical (ish) shape around that chunk. Close generation of peak chunks would create mountain ranges. These mountains would reach up to near the height limit.
Other generation tweaks that'd be nice in this mode would be flat ocean bottoms, gentler rises in terrain in general, and "smart" biome generation that generates biomes based off the ground height of the nearest chunk and the amount of water (humidity) in the nearest 8x8 area of chunks. So swamps would spawn near rivers and oceans, desert near mountains and far away from rain forests. This mode would be amazing for building, and would provide a more realistic tilt on exploration. The player really would have to spend days to find new places, and would have to pack for it. I'd love that!
I would like three options in biome sizes, ranging from small to huge:
Small: 16 chunks across
Normal: 32 chunks across
Large: 64 chunks across
Huge: 132 chunks across
A chunk is 16x16, so huge is about 1024 blocks across! The biome sizes are average,
not exact.

Would this idea catch on? Can such a thing be implemented????
How can we get the Mojang team to see this?!?!?!?!

BIG Snow Biome (1.1 seed Denduron):
So you mean, like, that big?
I agree there would have to be some way to survive in the desert. Other than that this is a great idea.

I once rode through a desert on a horse with no name...
This was made before the snapshot smart one....
Imagine... a desert 4,800 blocks wide.
Death valley xD Also, each block is three feet...
Fun fact
Three Feet = one meter
