Why not make mob spawners drop between 5-10 levels in xp orbs? The instant reward of it would help eliminate the "necessary evil" of xp-farms. This would provide more of an incentive to destroy them and help smooth the steep climb to level 50. Just my two cents.
It's much more efficient, rewarding, and fun to convert said spawner into a monster grinder.
Personally that's my goal the minute I can find a new dungeon in my world. Also, why is there not incentive enough to destroy them already? Do you want to get attacked by zombies every time you peak in a dungeon chest? If you answered no, then you have enough incentive to destroy the spawner.

If I don't want to get killed by em I tediously place a whole 4 torches around the spawner.
And I agree that mob traps are very rewarding and that they are an option once you find a spawner. But, this is intended to deter players from doing so with the quick gain.

Meaning impatient people get a small, stupid reward, while patient people get a better reward... okay.

I don't make mob traps out of every mob spawner I find and split myself into x amount of players to stand at each one simultaneously.
