Mojang needs to make an ocean update. The water is to empty and only has boring squids. They need to add new mobs and blocks to fill up ocean biomes. Some of my Ideas for mobs are whales, dolphins, and fish (you can see, maybe different kinds) as passive. Sharks as neutral. Maybe a sea monster as aggressive. Sponges should be found underwater since they're already planned to be put in and maybe coral to add extra color.
I do agree that oceans do need improvement. They do need more plants and mobs. I also think that oceans should have underwater mountains and rare underwater volcanoes. They should also add shipwrecks and they should allow higher levels of the "Respiration" helmet enchantment so you can explore the new underwater content longer.

"We will dismantle oppression board by board! We'll saw the foundation of big business in half! Even if it takes half eternity!"
I'll admit that now that we have real, huge oceans, there could be some improvements to make them more interesting. I still am hoping for the reimplementation of sponges at some point. Also a school of fish mob that maybe decreases the time needed to catch fish, or maybe even increases the yield somehow. Sharks would probably be a good ocean-specific mob. (So that you don't have to worry about them spawning in the pond outside your door) Not to mention Coral could make a cool decorative item, along with real furniture if it's added. I like it. Maybe one of the ways Sharks could agro you is if you mine coral, making it a possibly more valuable item.

Now Featuring Something Quest! Also, quite a few Minecraft Creations.
Maybe, after an Optimization and Potions/ potential Nether overhaul update (could be a joint update, since potions are generally linked with the Nether, what with two the most important potion items, three other ingrediants), we should have this. Actually, a Oceans update seems much more urgent than a Nether and/ or Potions update.
I still feel potions feel a bit.. incomplete, as does the Nether. Nether Ruins and two mobs really didn't take care of the need or add much variety. Potions should of been deeper and possibly more complex (higher end and super potions could be the more complex ones), as hinted at. Then, there's oceans. (This is far more important than the Enderdragon or it's lack of material rewards. (a ****-ton of XP doesn't count imo)) Quite frankly, it might be more urgently needed, since Oceans are the one thing even more boring (without mods, of course) than the Nether. (which only got slightly more interesting with the addition of Nether Ruins and two new mobs)

"I don't plan to add a new dimension at the moment. It's just to performance heavy on servers, and the current dimensions need more attention before we start adding new ones." < Yeah, like biomes or actual varied terrain in the nether. Nether ruins didn't do the trick at all.
I agree. Fishing needs an overhaul (with REAL not invisible fish!) and sponges need to make a comeback. Maybe they can be found in sunken ship dungeons. Maybe a sea monster or something.

I agree, I was thinking of saying something about sunken ships as well. I was also thinking of sharks attacking if you lose health underwater like you start drowning or get attacked by a sea monster
