I have recently felt like Minecraft should have many new items, but with a hard way to get them. Take Obsidian for example. You need a diamond pickaxe to get Obsidian. I think there should be tons of new blocks added that can only be obtained through a certain method, that all have unique features.
I also feel like there should be new mobs that can only be killed with certain weapons or something.
If Notch were to add a ton of new mobs and blocks, I think he should add them with a different approach from just dumping all of them into the game and allow players to just kill the mobs and mine the blocks with what they have. Sure, he could add stuff that can still be obtainable with diamond tools and such. I just think he should add more stuff like Obsidian.
I was also thinking that if he added new hostile mobs, that the ones that can only be killed with a specific weapon won't attack you if you don't have the appropriate weapon in your inventory. I feel like this would be a great way to show off all of your high tier weapons in SMP.
With new blocks added, highly advanced players in SMP could protect their bases from griefers pretty well too. This way, players would have to actually spend time on the server if they wanted to destroy anything. I doubt most players would go through that effort anyways.
I don't necessarily think this thread is suggesting more than one idea, because I'm kind of suggesting one whole idea in general instead of just several detailed ideas in one thread.
I don't know. I guess I like the idea, but I can't really say anything about it unless I know what kind of blocks and items you would add in a more concrete manner. But I always welcome the addition of new blocks if they're useful in some way

Yeah, I wasn't really gonna try to think of new blocks and stuff. This thread is basically just suggesting the idea of more blocks/mobs without any details of what those would be.
I might have another idea on how to add more mobs/items. Instead of having them just be everywhere, maybe if you travel 5000 blocks from the spawn, new stuff will start to appear? It seems like this would be a pretty good addition to the game. It would be pretty hard to even tell when anything new is added after traveling 5000 blocks, cause each 5000 blocks would only add a few more things.
This would be a nice way to add more ores and mobs. It would give players a better reason to travel.

It isn't entirely worthless. When I make suggestions I try to put lots of detail into them, like this. I felt like giving more of a general suggestion rather than putting a bunch of detail into a thread this time though.
There's a huge amount of people who will just scan the thread and find any flaws with it, and I felt like creating an idea like this would be safer and people might actually like the suggestion. The idea of this suggestion is to let people imagine what could be added to the game. I don't believe Mojang likes the idea of adding a huge detailed idea that one user created into Minecraft. Now if Mojang were to ever read this (basically impossible), they might actually like the idea of creating ways to add more blocks and mobs.

That's true, but this idea was basically about expanding the amount of unobtainable items under certain conditions greatly. You can't get cobblestone without a pickaxe. There's obviously a lot of stuff like that, but I just thought it would be cool if a ton of new elements were added that required certain tools/weapons.

You'd never be able to justify all of them though. Sounds like most would be ores and such and there just aren't enough potential uses for a ton of new ones.

New ores shouldn't generate for every 5,000 blocks then. I was mostly thinking about mobs and aboveground stuff anyways. The new stuff that appears for every 5,000 blocks obviously wouldn't go on forever though. Maybe just 5 levels of new mobs/blocks? I wasn't necessarily thinking of having this go on for like, 50 levels of new generation.
I've got an idea. Since this suggestion is so similar to the suggestion I linked you to, I could just put the content of that suggestion into this suggestion. So basically, instead of new dimensions, just new levels of generation for every 5,000 blocks.
